After listening back to our Live, we wanted to clarify a couple things because obviously we were talking very openly, emotionally, and off the cuff about something that has basically consumed our lives this year.
And honestly, part of this is just us covering our asses 😂 because when you’re talking casually on a Facebook Live, you say things the way normal people talk — not the way you’d word them in a medical record or legal document.
When Brittany said there are things she “can’t” do with her right hand, she obviously was not saying she is physically incapable of every single activity involving her right hand lol. She means she cannot use it normally or the way she could before she was injured. She still has pain, weakness, loss of function and restrictions, and what she can safely do depends on the activity and the restrictions her doctors have given her.
Same thing with work. Brittany has consistently said that she WANTS to go back to work and has asked to go back within her medical restrictions. Being able to do some limited things at Thick & Twisted, be present at the shop, make a shake here and there, or do certain tasks does not magically mean she can safely do every physical part of her regular job at the refinery.
We also threw around words like money being “owed,” a “court battle,” etc. We were speaking like normal people explaining an insanely complicated situation, not making formal legal statements. There are still disputed payments, workers’ comp issues, disability benefits, employment issues, medical issues and other things being investigated and worked through. We believe there are still financial issues that need to be corrected, but obviously the exact accounting and legal side of all of that is still being handled.
Nothing we said on Facebook is meant to replace Brittany’s medical records, doctor-ordered work restrictions, employment records, benefit records or the actual documentation surrounding what happened. Those records are what they are.
The entire reason we made the Live was because people keep asking why we’re closing Thick & Twisted, and we wanted to finally be honest about how much has been going on behind the scenes.
We didn’t stop loving our business. We didn’t just decide we didn’t feel like working anymore. We have spent an unbelievable amount of time on doctors, travel, attorneys, workers’ comp, Cenovus, the union, insurance, medical records, emails, phone calls, paperwork and trying to keep our family and home together through all of it.
We listened back afterward and realized there are definitely a few sentences that could be pulled out of context and made to sound completely different than what we meant — so here is our official little “please don’t take everything two emotional women said on a late-night Facebook Live as literal legal terminology” disclaimer 😂
We meant what we said about what our family has been going through, and we will absolutely keep fighting for answers and for what we believe is right.
