The hill behind Dovetail has nearly reached its peak, and so has our busy weekends!

Fall weekends bring our highest traffic days of the year as folks from all over make the drive to see fall foliage up the shore. We appreciate each and every person who makes Dovetail a part of their trip up north, as well as their patience and kindness as our staff crafts hundreds of drinks and meals—happy fall!💛❤️🧡

Maddy and Hannah recently did a waste audit with Resource Renew's Emma Pardini! Then we had an all-staff meeting to discuss our waste practices.

The good news: Emma praised how well we (and you all!) sort our waste into compost, recycling, and garbage! Yay, we rock! (Thank you for composting your napkins, uneaten food, cups, lids, straws, etc!)

Of course, just doing relatively well doesn't mean there isn't lots of room to improve. We looked at how to create better signage, improve compost locations (look, we even were gifted a compost bin!!), and manage back of house recycling.

We also learned a lot about the little tips and questions, often relating to the specific nature of Resource Renew's plant. (Broken glass should just go into the trash (safer for recycling workers); why cardboard should be flat, etc.)

It was very information, and we're excited to manage our waste better & more sustainably! And we completely recommend doing a waste audit for others, if you have a chance.

We are excited to be hosting Nerd Nite this season! "Nerd Nite Duluth is theater-based production of geeky presentations, games, and laughter."

Nerd Nite meets every other month to offer a free series of presentations by local history & pop culture experts. This Thursday will be Halloween themed, with presentations on Vampira, MTV's Fear, and haunting of the Duluth Depot.

Costumes or Halloween attire are welcome. (Anti)social hour starts at 5:30pm, and presentations start at 6pm.

Poster night was a THREEFOLD SUCCESS. Where else could you learn about South American Hippos, AI Debt Bubble, the best year for movies (1999, obviously), the secret perspectives on spoons, the company kept by psychopaths, how to Try-Fold (the WINNERS), a game played on r/anarchychess, variations of KHORNE, forgary runes, or going to the state fair?
