Alongi’s will reopen today at 11am. This has been a difficult and unsettling event for our community. We recognize that beyond the physical loss, this fire has had a profound impact on people whose jobs and livelihoods were suddenly disrupted. Today, as we reopen, our thoughts and prayers are with the employees and business owners as they face an uncertain and difficult time.

It has been amazing to see our small community pull together in the way that it has and we are beyond blessed to be a part of it. As we welcome our employees and customers back, our heavy hearts are committed to DuQuoin as we move forward.

We will remain closed again today. The Alongi family has been on Main Street since 1925. Ever since George Ciganovich returned from WW2, his family (Croessmann Wholesale) has delivered food products, paper goods, and Coca-Cola to Alongi’s. Every week. Forever.
We walked out our front door to their business and out our back door was their house. Every week. Again, Forever.

If you have eaten at Alongis, the Ciganovich family has been part of your life, too. Every week. Forever.

It won’t be the same next week and for this reason we will be closed just a bit longer.

Alongi’s will be closed this evening due to the devastating fire that took our local lumberyard, BJs, and Croessman Wholesale, who are all our long-time family friends. Our heart goes out to them as we stand across the street and watch. Alongi’s is currently bustling with Press and EMTs providing assistance to firefighters. Prayers to everyone involved. Stay tuned for when we will reopen.
