Devotion: "Do It Again"

Scripture Reading: Isaiah 43:18-19 (NIV)
*"Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? The song "Do It Again" by Elevation Worship is a powerful anthem of remembrance and trust. It is built on a foundation of historical faithfulness—reminding us that the God who parted the Red Sea, the God who kept His promises to the patriarchs, and the God who has been present in our own past struggles is the same God who stands with us today.

The Foundation of Remembrance
The chorus, "You made a way, where there was no way, and I believe, You'll do it again," is not a request for a miracle; it is a declaration of identity. It shifts our focus from the size of our current obstacle to the character of our God. When we face uncertainty, our instinct is often to panic or retreat. This song calls us to pause and look backward before we look forward.

In the Bible, God often instructed His people to build altars or set up stones of remembrance (like in Joshua 4) specifically so they would not forget what He had done. We need these "stones" in our own lives—moments where we clearly saw God’s hand move. When we sing, "I've seen You move, come move the mountains," we are fueling our current faith with the evidence of our past experiences.

Trusting in the "Not Yet"
The beauty of this devotion lies in the tension between "I've seen You move" and "I believe You'll do it again." There is often a waiting period between our past victories and our future needs. This song invites us to inhabit that waiting period with confidence rather than doubt.

It reminds us that God is not just a God of the past or the future, but a God of the process. He is working even when we cannot see the breakthrough. Our faith is not in the outcome itself, but in the One who holds the outcome in His hands.

Reflection
Take a moment today to do what the song suggests: remember.
* What is a "mountain" God has moved for you in the past?
* How does that memory change the way you view your current situation?
* Can you surrender the how and the when of your current need, resting instead in the certainty that He is still the same faithful God?

Prayer
Lord, thank You for the ways You have shown up in my life before. You have been faithful when I was faithless, and You have made a way when I saw no path forward. Today, I choose to place my trust in Your character. I believe that because You are the same yesterday, today, and forever, You are already at work in my current situation. Help me to walk in that confidence, resting in Your timing and Your power. Amen.

Tuesday of Holy Week - The Fig Tree and Jesus’ Teachings

Matthew 21:18-22 NIV

18 Early in the morning, as Jesus was on his way back to the city, he was hungry. 19 Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then he said to it, “May you never bear fruit again!” Immediately the tree withered.
20 When the disciples saw this, they were amazed. “How did the fig tree wither so quickly?” they asked.
21 Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done. 22 If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”

On Tuesday, Jesus encounters a fig tree that bears no fruit, and He curses it. This moment symbolizes God's disappointment over unfruitfulness. Following this, Jesus teaches His disciples about faith and the power of prayer.

Consider the significance of being fruitful in our spiritual lives. What fruits of the Spirit—love, joy, peace—are evident in you? Are there areas where you feel barren or unproductive? Reflect on how you can cultivate a deeper faith and reliance on God in your daily life.

Prayer:
Lord, help me to bear fruit in my life. Teach me to cultivate a relationship with You that overflows into love and good works. May my faith be strong and my prayers fervent. Amen.

Loving Beyond the Good

Luke 6:32-33 (NIV)
"If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that."

It is easy to love those who are kind, gentle, and deserving of our affection. We often find ourselves drawn to good people—those who treat us well, support our dreams, and inspire us with their actions. Their goodness shines like a beacon, inviting us to respond in kind. However, as followers of Christ, we are called to a deeper, more challenging love—a love that transcends the boundaries of merit and favor.

Loving good people is a reflection of the natural affection we all feel. Yet, true faith calls us to stretch our hearts to embrace those who may not be as lovable—those who are difficult, hurtful, or distant. It's in these moments that our faith is tested and enriched. When we choose to love not just the good, but also the flawed and the broken, we mirror the heart of God.

In 1 John 4:7-8, we are reminded that love comes from God. We are encouraged to love one another because, in doing so, we demonstrate that we know God. Jesus' teaching in Luke challenges us to rise above the ordinary; it is when we extend grace to those who least expect it that we truly express God’s transformative love.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, help me to love as You love. Teach me to see beyond the surface of others and to recognize the worth that lies within every soul. Grant me the courage to reach out to those who are difficult to love and the wisdom to understand their struggles. May my love reflect Your grace and bring healing, reconciliation, and hope to those around me. Amen.

Today, challenge yourself to love someone who is hard to love. Reflect on what it means to embody God's love in action, and allow your heart to stretch beyond comfort into compassion.

Embracing the Beauty of New Beginnings

Isaiah 43:19 (NIV): "See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland."

As the first day of spring dawns upon us, we are greeted by the gentle warming of the sun and the stirring of life that has been dormant through the winter months. This season of renewal invites us to reflect on the beauty of change and the hope it brings.

Spring serves as a vivid reminder that change is not only a natural part of life but also an essential aspect of our spiritual journey. Just as the earth awakens from its slumber, we are called to embrace the new things God is doing in our hearts and lives. The vibrant blossoms, budding leaves, and singing birds inspire us to shed the old and welcome the fresh possibilities that lay ahead.

In our lives, we may face seasons of uncertainty, loss, or stagnation. Yet, as we reflect on the promise of spring, we are reminded that God is always at work, creating pathways through our wilderness and bringing life to our dry areas. This scripture from Isaiah encourages us to perceive the new things being done around us—if we choose to look closely, we may discover beautiful transformations both within and around us.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, as we welcome the arrival of spring, help us to embrace the changes in our lives. Grant us the wisdom to see the new beginnings You are creating and the courage to step forward with hope and joy. May we surrender our past and trust in Your perfect plan for our future. Thank You for the beauty of this season and the reminders of Your love and faithfulness. In Jesus' name, we pray, Amen.

Take a moment today to observe the signs of spring around you. What changes do you see in nature? How might these changes reflect the new things God is doing in your life? Write down your thoughts and prayers as you embrace this season of renewal.

He Rejoices over YOU!!

“The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness; He will quiet you by His love; He will exult over you with loud singing." (Zephaniah 3:17, ESV)

In the midst of our busy lives, it’s easy to overlook the profound truth contained in Zephaniah 3:17. This verse reveals the heart of God toward His people—a heart full of love, joy, and a desire for intimacy. Here, we are reminded that God is not distant or detached; rather, He is right here with us, in the very core of our being.

“The LORD your God is in your midst.” This assurance should bring comfort to our hearts. No matter how overwhelming life's challenges may seem, we are never alone. His presence is a promise that we can hold onto. In moments of despair, He offers salvation—not just from our circumstances, but for our very souls.

“A mighty one who will save.” God’s might is not displayed in force alone but in His ability to save us from our struggles, doubts, and fears. He invites us to rely on Him, to trust in His power that works in miraculous ways. Let us approach Him boldly, knowing that His strength can uphold us when we feel weak.

“He will rejoice over you with gladness.” Imagine the Creator of the universe taking delight in you! This echoes the deep love God has for each individual. His joy does not depend on our accomplishments or failures but is rooted in His nature. We are cherished and celebrated, not only in our victories but also in our vulnerabilities.

“He will quiet you by his love.” In a chaotic world, His love acts as a soothing balm for our weary souls. When worries rage, His embrace offers peace that surpasses all understanding. Seek His love in prayer and reflection, allowing it to calm the storms within.

“He will exult over you with loud singing.” Picture God singing over you—this beautiful image reveals the hope and joy He finds in us. It’s a reminder that our lives can be a source of joy for Him. As we cultivate our relationship with Him, let our worship rise like sweet melodies, reflecting His love back to Him.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, thank You for being present in my life. I am grateful that You are a mighty Savior who rejoices over me and quiets my heart with Your love. Help me to recognize Your presence in every moment, and may I find comfort in Your promise of salvation. Teach me to respond to Your joy by living a life of worship and gratitude. Amen.

Take a moment to be still and reflect on God's presence in your life. How can you respond today to the love and joy He has for you?

Seeking Godly Wisdom and Direction

James 1:5 (NIV)
"If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you."

In life’s journey, we often face decisions that can shape our path and impact those around us. The desire for guidance is a natural response to uncertainty, and as believers, we have the incredible privilege of seeking God for wisdom. James reminds us that God is not only willing but eager to grant us the wisdom we seek. It comes freely and without reproach, highlighting His generous nature.

When we come before God, we must also prepare our hearts to receive His direction, which might come in unexpected ways. It may not always align with our immediate desires or understanding, but trusting in His plan is essential. Remember, wisdom isn’t simply about knowledge; it's about discernment and understanding the heart of God.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I come before You today, acknowledging my need for Your wisdom and guidance. Life presents many choices, and I often feel overwhelmed and unsure. Help me to seek Your will earnestly and to trust in the direction You provide. Teach me to recognize Your voice amidst the noise of the world.

Lord, grant me clarity and understanding as I navigate my daily life. Help me to align my thoughts and actions with Your purpose. Fill me with Your Spirit, so I may walk in faith and make decisions that honor You. I thank You for the promise that I can ask for wisdom, and it will be given. In Your holy name, I pray. Amen.

Take a few moments in silence to listen and reflect. What decisions or areas in your life need God's wisdom today? Write them down and commit to seeking His guidance in prayer throughout the week.
