🍦 Cone or Cup?
We recently came across an interesting article from TIME Magazine about why an ice cream cone might actually be a little kinder to the environment than a disposable cup. It got us thinking about some of the small choices we make here in Downieville.
At Cold Rush Cafe, we've always tried to do things a little differently. Since day one, we've proudly served organic and fair trade coffee and espresso - thank you Cafe Moto, and because we're fortunate enough to live and work alongside some of California's most beautiful rivers, we've also tried to minimize single-use plastics whenever practical. That's one reason you'll find many of our bottled beverages come in cans or glass rather than plastic.
What we're most proud of, though, isn't what happens inside our cafe, it's how clean our community is.
If you've spent time in Downieville, you've probably noticed there isn't much litter around. That's thanks to residents who care, visitors who respect the area, the hard-working county crews who help keep things looking great, and organizations like the Downieville Improvement Group that dedicate countless volunteer hours to making our town shine.
So here's a fun question:
Would anyone be interested in a community river or town cleanup day this summer?
Nothing formal... just a chance to spend an hour making a great place even better. Maybe everyone who brings back a small bag of litter earns a free ice cream cone afterward. 🍦
Truthfully, we may have trouble finding enough trash to fill a few bags, and that's a pretty wonderful problem to have.
What do you think? Would you join us?
And while we're asking important questions... are you Team Cone or Team Cup?

Cut down on plastic pollution by having your ice cream in a cone rather than cup.
