Front Porch Thoughts…🤎
Today I was reminded how important it is to not get so busy that we miss God’s still, small voice.
This morning, I received a text from my niece. She told me she couldn’t get someone off her mind and asked if, by chance, this person came through Penny’s Perks, would I put whatever she ordered on a ticket and she would pay for it after work.
Less than five minutes later, my manager came back to the kitchen and said, “There is someone here asking if you’re available.”
It was the very person my niece had been talking about.
As we talked, she shared that just two days earlier she had planned to end her life. She said she wanted to come to Penny’s Perks one last time before following through with that plan. Instead, she ended up in the hospital, where doctors told her her organs were shutting down and that she may not have survived another week.
There I stood in my drive-thru, with cars wrapped around the building, listening to her story. And something beautiful happened. No one drove away. No one complained. For more than twenty minutes, God gave us the gift of time.
When she pulled around, my baristas nearly ran outside to pray over her.
She told us she didn’t know Jesus, but she wanted to. She felt like she had no one left.
Before she left, she looked at us and said, “I have a family now.”
Friends, this is what Penny’s Perks is all about.
Yes, we serve coffee. Yes, we serve lunch. But more importantly, we want to be a place where people feel seen, loved, and welcomed. A place where grace is greater than judgment. A place where people can find hope.
If you need prayer, we’ll pray with you.
If you’re battling addiction, we’ll stand with you.
If you’re lonely and just need family to share a cup of coffee with, pull up a chair.
We see you.
But more importantly, Jesus sees you.
And if you want to know Him, step through our doors. We’d be honored to introduce you.
Today reminded me that Penny’s Perks was never just about coffee.
It’s always been about people.
Love,
Penny ☕️
