We were so happy to help support the Sebec Reading room this 4th of July. By dontating a portion of sales. Not only did we edit our menu to not compete by selling burgers and got dogs on Thursday, but also only sold dough boys on Friday the 4th.
The owners family has had a camp on cove road for generations, they just wantrd to give back.
Unfortunatly the volunteers at the reading room responded to this generosity by yelling at the owner. Making demands as to what they were allowd to sell, as well at talking trash the entire time telling anyone that would listen to not support the food truck in any way. Which I heard first hand every time I walked by. Never once mentioning that we were they to support them and were donating a portion of sales to them.
Regardless of their hateful behaviour and the suggestions from many customers to not give them a dime for what they were doing, we still made a donation.
The Sebec reading room is continuing to disrespect our efforts to give back by blaming us becaue they bought way to much product and charged what people were calling outrageous prices. And selling burgers they cooked at 2pm and sold those hockey pucks at 5pm
1. We had permission to be there
2. We only found out we were going to be there on the 2nd so when we were yelled at for not telling them so they could adjust the 300 chicken halves they bought 2 months earlier it would have mafe no difference
3. We were under no obligation to tell them anything.
4. We did not have to edit our menu to make sure anyone that wantrd burgers and hot dogs would buy from them and have no impact on their sales
5. We didnt have to offer any donation to them at all.
6. 90% of sales were made during the fire works long after the reading room stopped selling food.
Even after all their disrespectful behaviour we were still willing to make a donation. Knowing that we were helping the reading room, not the individuals that wound up hurting the readign rooms reputation, and likely their sales. As countless customers mentioned how rude they were being.
Pretty sure any other food truck would not have made any concessions to not compete let alone make a donation.
But instead of any appreciation or even a simple thank you. They yelled at owner till she was in tears.
This is not a refelction of the community, just a group of entitled individuals.
We had planned on continuing to donate a % of sales over the rest of the summer when we set up in the village for the rest of the summer, but instead will be donating to some other group in sebec. Maybe the fire dept.? But will make sure they are ok with us doing that, as I have no interest in getting yelled at again for offering my time and money to give back.
