Welcome to September. The Elks are ready for fall…and football!!

Thanks to all who attended the Elks/VFW/KC Picnic in August. It’s always a good time to gather with friends. The bounce houses from VFW were a hit. Thanks to the KC’s for grilling and helping to serve more than 150 guests. As always, the Elks Community Band put on another good show. Thank you again to all who helped!

Congratulations to our Most Valuable Student Scholarship Recipients. Students applied last November for this scholarship, the scholarship committee then reviewed and judged the applications based on the student’s involvement in their community, extracurricular involvement and academics.

Twelve area seniors of the Class of 2026 applied for the scholarship. The 2026 scholarship recipients from Devils Lake Elks Lodge #1216 are: Caber Bryce-Volk, Devils Lake High School — $1,000, Brandi Shock, Dakota Prairie High School — $1,000, Mallory Kemp, Cavalier High School — $750, Lily Donohue, Dakota Prairie High School — $500. This fall, Bryce-Volk is attending Lake Region State College, Shock is attending the University of North Dakota, Kemp is attending Montana State University–Bozeman, and Donohue is attending North Dakota State University. Scholarships were presented to the winners at the picnic.

Volunteers and leaders are what make this organization strong. The Elks are in desperate need of both…as well as officers and trustees. If positions are not filled in the next few months, this lodge and club will need to shut its doors. The Elks 115 year history in this community is far-reaching. The lodge has done many good works in the community…with both good times and times of struggle. Our members must step up, now, or this organization will cease to exist. We need people to fill a Lodge Chair vacancy. If you are interested in becoming a Lodge Officer, or Trustee please reach out. We are always looking for new members, so if you have family or friends who would like to join The Elks Family, please grab an application or visit with any of the Lodge Officers or Trustees, we would love to have them!

Come in and join us for Happy Hour Tuesday – Saturday from 4-6. Again, please take a good look at the calendar for all the exciting things happening this month, and please come out and enjoy great food and conversation with your family and your friends.

High School Seniors! The application for the Most Valuable Student scholarship is now open! Devils Lake Elks Lodge #1216 will award nearly $5,000 in local scholarships. At the national level, The Elks will award 500 scholarships ranging from $4,000 to $30,000 over four years. No relation to the Elks is necessary to apply.
With this scholarship, students gain more than just financial aid—they gain an appreciation of service, a network of like-minded peers, and an for life.
