I’m proud to announce that I signed my first high school NIL student-athlete : Edgar Hubbard, Class of 2027,
But let me be very clear: the main reason I’m proud to stand with this young man is his 4.2 overall GPA.
The sports are impressive, but they are secondary.
Edgar is one of the top 11th-grade athletes in the nation and a three-sport athlete, but what separates him is that he is a student first.
He takes college courses twice a week, carries himself with respect, has a great attitude, and understands that education is the foundation for everything else.
He is also a God-fearing young man with a strong family base behind him. You can tell he has been raised with values, discipline, respect, and purpose. That matters to me just as much as any highlight, ranking, or trophy.
He plays summer league basketball for 1on1 , LaMelo Ball’s AAU program, and the season has already started strong with Edgar being named Player of the Tournament at the Puma Classic.
But the GPA, the faith, the family, the discipline, the respect, and the character — that’s what made me believe in him.
This is the type of NIL I want to represent: young people who are excellent in the classroom, grounded in faith, humble in life, and dangerous in competition.
Congratulations, Edgar. Keep leading with your mind and your character first. The game will follow.
