Detroit has become one of the most prominent foodie cities in America & Royale exemplifies the city’s culinary culture. The inspiration behind our name comes from the classic 1994 movie Pulp Fiction, which has garnered a dedicated following since its release. Since opening in early 2017, Royale has been featured in various local media outlets including Crain’s Detroit, WDIV’s “Dine in the D,” and
Eater-Detroit.

We’re proud to be the latest addition to the thriving food scene in the Cass Corridor. We created our menu with the aim of providing high quality food at affordable prices. We don’t sacrifice our quality standards or cut corners to save costs. We strive to be an asset to the community, a place where students from Wayne State can come in and enjoy a great meal without breaking the bank. A place where employees of the DMC, and other neighboring businesses can come in for a house made, tasty salad. A place where families can come in with their kids, (we don’t serve alcohol) and have a great meal after the ballgame. We designed our restaurant with the intention of maintaining the character of the original building which was constructed in 1913. The exposed brick walls and Edison-bulb light fixtures give the space a rustic look. In line with this theme, we used 100 year old reclaimed wood from northern Michigan to build our front counter, which bears our hand painted logo. We also made it a point to pay homage to our namesake, including many references to Pulp Fiction. One of our walls features the famous Banksy artwork which depicted Jules and Vincent (Samuel L. Jackson and John Travolta’s characters in the movie). The gem of our restaurant’s design is the stunning 11ft by 13ft mural depicting the “Royale with Cheese” scene from the movie. The mural was painted over the course of two weeks by local artist Jeremy Harvey. *include pic of mural here*
The Royale Way:
All of our menu items are made with the freshest locally sourced ingredients, and each order is prepared with a commitment to high quality. The buns we use for our delicious burgers can’t be found anywhere else. The fluffy, airy, challah buns we use are baked fresh daily by a Detroit based bakery and are crafted exclusively for Royale with Cheese. Our beef patties are never frozen, made to order every time. Our Chef hand selected the beef blend mix for our patties, resulting in a perfect balance of flavors. Our meats and poultry are sourced by a butcher located in Detroit’s historic Eastern Market. Aside from our delicious burgers, our hand-spun shakes are among our most popular items. Royale’s “$5 shakes” (an ode to Pulp Fiction) are made from a frozen custard base, which results in a product that’s richer and creamier than regular ice cream. We offer exclusive shake flavors only available at Royale, including Fruity Pebbles, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Cookie Butter, and Nutella. We make it a point to add special menu items periodically. So every time you come in you can try something new!
