This year in honor of Juneteenth Good Eatz Detroit Gourmet Eatery will be paying homage to some of our Culinary pioneers. People who shaped the way we look, taste & cook food. The first person we want to highlight is Chef Hercules who was a slave who ended up being George Washington’s head Chef. The two had a peculiar relationship. Washington gave Hercules special privileges and even let him sell his left over scraps. Which made him roughly $200 a year. He spent his earnings on flashy clothing & jewelry. That still wasn’t enough for Hercules who still yearned to be free like so many other people he heard of. Read more above about Chef Hercules.
