Vietnamese coffee dripping too fast, too slow, or tasting weak? Small changes can make a big difference. Here’s what to check next time you brew with a phin:

1. Coffee runs through too fast
Your grind may be too coarse, or you may be using too little coffee. Try a slightly finer grind and measure your coffee so you have a consistent starting point.

Don’t skip the bloom: add just enough hot water to evenly wet the grounds, then pause before pouring the rest. This gives the coffee time to release gas and become evenly saturated.

2. Coffee barely drips
Your grind may be too fine, or the filter may be pressed down too tightly. Try a slightly coarser grind and gently settle the filter on top. Pressing harder can compact the grounds and restrict the flow.
1. Coffee tastes weak
Check your coffee-to-water ratio. Too much water or too little coffee can leave your brew tasting thin, especially after adding ice. Try reducing the water or increasing the coffee a little.
3. Every batch tastes different
Measure your coffee and water, keep your water temperature consistent, and follow the same pouring steps. Change one thing at a time so you know what actually improves your brew.
