Dear friends,
I am sharing today a little delicacy of my childhood. 🍂Sweet Plum Dumplings🍂
As a child, during those times we didn’t use to have as much as our kinds have nowadays, so having grandmas and moms baking desserts for us, it was a blessing.
All their treats made from scratch, with natural and unprocessed ingredients, delicious and flavorful, used to bring us together ( cousins, friends, kids from the neighborhood ) at the table in joyful moments, laughs and a lot of talkings. We would eat them until our bellies ached.
Plum dumplings ( in Romanian Gomboturi cu prune) are special autumn treats, that brings me comfort and revive good childhood memories.
What are they? Soft, pillowy dough surrounds a whole purple juicy prune plum, then boiled in a lemon fragrant water, then rolled in buttery biscuit crumbs, and sprinkled with crunchy cinnamon sugar. They are served warm with a spoonful of lightly sweeten sour cream.
🍂 From what I know they are pretty common throughout Europe. My grandma loved to make them, so I grew up eating plum dumplings every late summer and fall, during the plum season.
The kids used to shake well the plum trees, the rain of plums plopped to the ground, we collected them in a woven basket ( of course making contests who got more), and brought to grandma to make us the delicious Gomboturi cu prune!
