Truth be told, coffee and I were not friends for most of my life.

I thought black coffee was crap.
But it only took a moment to change that.

I had to learn how to enjoy speciality coffee correctly through a process called Cupping, which involves smelling and tasting a number of different roasts side by side.

Once I could compare all of the different characteristics of coffees next to each other, it helped me understand what I truly liked and taught me the significance of origin, process, and roast style.

I wrote about this experience in my weekly newsletter. You can find the link in my bio.

One of the reasons I love coffee shops so much is because they help me slow down. It’s so easy to breeze through mornings, days, weeks, and years of life without really paying attention. Especially in America, we take pride in going fast.

But how much of today do we miss chasing tomorrow?

I love working hard, don’t get me wrong. But I also love noticing. And more than ever, I’m trying to spend a few extra moments of my morning noticing everything I can about my coffee.

The taste of the first sip.
The feel of the hot mug.
The smell of the beans from a fresh bag.
The sound of water dripping through the grinds.

I believe these little moments that we can notice can bring a new depth to life.

For your next cup, here’s your reminder: Notice your coffee. Notice your life.

When I started the Guesthouse, I didn’t plan to sell my coffee to businesses. I didn’t even know that was an option. I felt a lot of pressure to know who my target customers were right away so I launched events to meet individuals and stumbled upon an opportunity I never expected. And it’s opened up an entirely new world for my company. Truthfully, I’m still figuring out who my customers are, but most importantly, I try to stick to my main purpose for starting the company in the first place: connecting with people. If I can do that on a business to business level, that means I can have even more impact.
