Let’s bring this week’s whiskey into focus with our Weekly Whiskey Wall Selection of Benriach Original and Smokey Ten-year.

Both the Benriach Distillery original and smoky ten-year releases from this hidden Speyside gem feature three cask maturing for rich, layered flavors not found in many Scottish drams. The original uses ex-bourbon, sherry, and virgin oak casks for lots of vanilla, caramel, dried fruit, nutty, and oaky flavor. The smoky edition uses Highland Peat (sweeter and less pungent than Islay peat) and is aged in ex-bourbon barrels, virgin oak, and Jamaican rum casks for a light smoky, sweet, oaky profile. Both offer a complex and perhaps more interesting alternative to traditional Speyside malts at a remarkably reasonable price.
