The Frontier Dining Room had a detail that longtime guests remember better than almost any other: the water glasses. Made by the Blenko Glass Company of West Virginia, each one was a unique piece of hand-blown art in brilliant colors, no two exactly alike. Families who visited the dining room in the 1970s still describe them. The Frontier Dining Room also had a standing dress code: sport coat required to sit at a window table. If you arrived without one, the coat check kept several available to borrow. The policy was summarized on a sign that read: "Shores are nix after six." The combination of Blenko water glasses and a borrowed sport coat was, apparently, exactly the right level of occasion.

Registration is open for the 8th Annual Craft Brew Open, Saturday, October 3 at Majestic Oaks.

Here is the day: eighteen holes in a four-player scramble, breakfast before you tee off, craft b**r sampling along the way (21+), lunch, and contests all afternoon. Longest drive, closest to the pin, putt for booze, a hole-in-one prize that is a stay at our Lake House, and a best Oktoberfest attire contest decided by QR code voting.

$250 for two players, $450 for a foursome. Your cart, both meals, and the samples are included. The field is amateur-only, so nobody is showing up to sandbag your scramble.

Proceeds benefit Open Arms Free Clinic of Walworth County.
