We had a rough weekend. 🥺😢
And I just want to own it.
If you came into SMASH’D this Saturday or Sunday, there’s a chance you saw us at our worst. They were two of the busiest days we’ve ever had back-to-back, we were extremely short staffed, and we had more issues than I’m comfortable with.
For anyone who waited too long, didn’t get the service you deserved, or left disappointed, I’m sorry.
The truth is, we are still learning how to do this.
Not long ago, this was a little coffee shop open 3 days a week. Now we’re trying to build a restaurant that can serve this community 7 days a week, and the growth has happened faster than we ever expected.
That’s an amazing problem to have, but it’s still a problem we have to solve.
We’ve been pushing hard. Our staff has been working their butts off. We’re hiring and training as fast as we can without sacrificing the kind of people we want representing SMASH’D. And personally, I’ve been putting in more hours than I thought I was capable of just trying to keep everything moving forward.
But being busy isn’t an excuse for giving someone a bad experience.
I want every person who walks through our doors to get great food, great service, and feel like we genuinely appreciate them choosing to spend their money with us. We aren’t there every single time yet, but we’re going to keep working until we are.
The good news is we just hired two more great young people to join our team, and we’re continuing to hire, train, improve our systems, and learn from weekends like this one.
I’m incredibly thankful that our biggest struggle right now is figuring out how to keep up with how many people want to come eat with us. ❤️
And we’re just getting started.
There is a LOT happening behind the scenes, including plans for a much bigger space and a full remodel. Our goal is to build a Waffle House that Deer Park is proud of and that people from all over will want to come experience.
Thank you for supporting us while we grow. Thank you for being patient when we don’t get it right. And thank you for continuing to show up.
We’ll keep getting better. ❤️🧇
