Hello everyone! As we start to spin up work on Dayton Swing Smackdown this year, there's a few things we need to announce:
First, dates! Dayton Swing Smackdown Round 19 will be February 26-28, 2027. Make sure you save the date on your calendar!
Secondly, as we are suffering from our own success a bit, we unfortunately have to start putting limits on the team competition: While we wish it were feasible to showcase everyone who wants to put a team together before the event, we are approaching the limit of how much time we can really spend on team performances at the Saturday dance.
With that in mind, we are going to be capping the number of performing teams at 20. If we have more than 20 teams that wish to perform, we will activate a video audition process to reduce the number of teams down to 15 (so that there's not just one or two single teams that get cut). Collegiate teams will not be reduced to fewer than 5 teams. Teams that don't get to perform at the event will have their competition registration refunded and, with their permission, have their performance video showcased on our social media pages.
The deadline for team registration remains February 1st, and we will notify all teams if a video audition is necessary at that point.
As we know people start planning their team performances early, so we wanted to put this change out into the world sooner rather than later.
