Lisa See, author of a bestselling novel in which tea plays a central role, and tea researcher Linda Louie, will give the keynote address at the UC Davis Global Tea Initiative for the Study of Tea Culture and Science Colloquium. Her book The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane explores the lives of a Chinese mother and the daughter she gave up for adoption. See's great grandfather was a leader in Los Angelesā Chinatown, a story she recounts in her 1995 book On Gold Mountain.
The 9:30 a.m. talk launches the daylong colloquium, titled āThe Stories We Tell: Myths, Legends, and Anecdotes About Tea,ā which features scholars from around the globe.
It will include a presentation titled "Embracing Tea in Restoration England," by Frances Dolan, distinguished professor of English, and her students, and panels exploring spiritual beliefs and tea in Vietnam and tea culture in Soviet-era Georgia.
