Power has been restored to our block. We'll take stock in the morning, but hopefully this means that we'll be able to open later tonight.

Until then, I'm getting some much needed sleep.

2026-08-26 WED, 10:22pm PDT update:

We've still no power... and PG&E informed us that the estimated time for power restoration has been moved back to 6:00am tomorrow.

2026-08-26 WED, 4:30pm PDT update:

We are officially closed tonight. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Per my discussions with PG&E ground crews and engineers:

- There was a cascading electrical failure in the existing transformer (some areas would work, others wouldn't. Flicking switches would move the outage area around the circuit, but not fix the problem).

- The transformer is installed 12 feet deep into the ground (below the pavement outside of E Street Plaza), so they needed a specialized technician to come out on-site to make a diagnosis of the problem and possible solutions. That process takes hours.

- The diagnostician confirmed that the transformer needed to be replaced. Which means that a huge crane had to be brought it, bolted to the cement, and lowered into the ground to pull out the old transformer. However, they first had to pump out over 50 gallons of leaking oil and water in order to even gain necessary purchase of the transformer.

- They had to bring in more power generators to power everything overnight into this afternoon.

- The new transformer has been delivered and the refuse/water has been pumped out. However, they must now inspect the wiring infrastructure for damage (as there was a considerable amount of b urnt material on the transformer). If the existing wiring and cables are sound, then they can move forward with installation. If not, then they need to pull new cable. Underground.

- Even once the new transformer is installed, they need to run tests on every connection to determine as to whether or not there is further damage "downstream the network" (e.g., the new transformer might work fine, the main connection might work fine, but if a property two blocks away isn't getting power, then there may be damage at that satellite node).

All in all, the scope of work is still massive, so I personally doubt that they'll be able to make their 10:00pm estimated time of restoration tonight... but I'm not a civil engineer/electrician, so what do I know?

In any case, we will keep you posted as to the status of when our restaurant might be able to re-open. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

So... There is an "unplanned" PG&E power outage in our area (started earlier this morning around 245am) and PG&E kept moving the projected deadline for restoration (first, it was 500am, then it was 1000am, then it was unknown, and now it's 1000pm tonight).

So, here's how this affects us (and you guys):

- if power is restored before 400pm, then we will do our best to have the restaurant open for service by 600pm with a limited menu.

- if power is not restored before 400pm, then we are formally closed for the day.

I will keep y'all posted (as long as my phone has battery life).
