Jeez!! All the comments and messages! I don’t think it will be a “normal cookbook”. I think it will be recipes - with LOTS of stories woven between the recipes!!

Yes - it will include some of our super secret recipes (if we can figure out how to get them “out-of-our head” and “downsize them” - we STRUGGLE with that). But it may also include some of the “Supper Club” dishes we have with our dear friends! And dinners we’ve cooked while WANDERING! And photos! Like - this isn’t going to be a normal “cookbook”!

And a few tips for using store bought STUFF to make a great dinner!

So - are you still in?? Should we come out of our retirement to create a “cook-book”???

I am a little overwhelmed by the response to our last post! I had no idea some of you had such a passion for some of the things we cooked! And like I said - we still COOK - we just cook in smaller quantities!

So many of you have asked for a cookbook - and I think we need to think about that! As with all good cooks - most of our recipes are “in our heads”! But it might be good to try to write them down.

And then maybe include some “extras” about how to take some simple “grocery store” finds to make quick - but elevated - meals!

Just thinking! And we are always interested to hear your thoughts!

We still cook! Just in our home for family & friends! I hate to see this FB page not be used! Maybe I’ll just ask all of you - if you wanted us to give you ONE recipe we had - that you would love to know what our “secret” was - what would it be?

We are just curious! No big secret - we are selling the business!

But until we have a buyer - would anyone be interested in us offering some cooking classes to teach you how to cook some of your favorites? And, if so - what do you want to learn how to cook?

We are considering this option! Let us know what you think and what you would LOVE to learn how to make for you and your family!

I will be a FUN event learning to cook with us!!!

LONG POST - but heartfelt!

It is with a VERY HEAVY HEART that I must announce - Dinner’s Ready will not be reopening. We are so incredibly grateful for the support and love that Dauphin Island - and our incredible customers have given us over the years. So many of you have become life-long friends. WHAT A BLESSING!!

When I opened this business 7 years ago - after I retired from the corporate world - I was fulfilling a PASSION that I always had. I just wanted to cook and feed people. And even though I had so many people tell me I was crazy to try to open a business like this - on Dauphin Island - I did it anyway! AND JUST - WOW! What a RIDE!

But priorities change. Major life events change your priorities! Taking care of my precious Mama - at the end of her life - was a major life event for me. Mama was my biggest cheerleader when I decided to open this business. And it was her commitment to making Key Lime Pie crusts from scratch that made our Key Lime Pies - LEGENDARY!

Jan - what can I say? Dinner’s Ready would not be where it is today without you! During our time at Dinner’s Ready - you become my BFF - the Ethel to my Lucy - my sister from another mother - the person I am stepping into my next phase of life with - and the next phase is going to be AWESOME (y’all stay tuned)! I love you..like Peter loved the Lord!

Sharin - Dinner’s Ready would have never started without you!!! That will always be incredibly special to me! Our times together opening this business were EPIC!

Rosie - As always - you were there for me - LONG BEFORE I opened Dinner’s Ready. Whatever I needed you to do - from picking up groceries - to prepping food - to decorating - you were there for me!

Carrie - You started as a customer - and then became an integral part of the team! And then - became a great friend!

Lee - We always called you the “Kitchen Fairy”!! The fact that you wake up at 4AM and got the “list” done every morning before we got there was always AMAZING!

I could mention so many others - and I’m going to try to tag everyone who made a big difference - but I am sure I will miss someone. There are just SO MANY PEOPLE who helped make this business a success.

But it is time to move on! THANK YOU!! From the bottom of my heart - THANK YOU! Anyone reading this made my dream come true for SEVEN YEARS!

I am BLESSED and GRATEFUL!

I feel like so many of our wonderful customers knew my Mama - that sweet lady who made your Key Lime Pie crusts! She went into the arms of Jesus Tuesday afternoon, one week shy of her 97th birthday.
————————————

Mary "Gran" Ridgeway, lovingly known as Mrs. Mary, age 96, passed peacefully from her home on Dauphin Island into the arms of Jesus on February 18, 2025.

Born Mary Lou Sykes on February 25, 1928, in Holopaw, Florida; she was the daughter of John M. Sykes and Elvira Rigney Sykes. She grew up in a large family alongside her siblings William Sykes, Toby Sykes, Wesley Sykes, Lesley Sykes, Vivian Griffin, Clifford Sykes, Ella Mae Swilley, and Barbara McCoy, all of whom proceeded her in death.

Gran was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. Ridgeway; her sons, Clifford E. Ridgeway and Thomas S. Ridgeway; daughter-in-law, Annette Ridgeway; and her faithful companion, Chipper.

She is survived by her children Robert W. Ridgeway (Laura) and Teresa Ridgeway; her grandchildren Leslie Forsman (Jonathan), Carrie Dauphin (Ray Charles), Amy Wilson (Scott), and Jennifer Cooley (Bryan); her great-grandchildren, Savanah Johnston, Emily Blackwell (Joey), Matthew Dauphin (Laura), Benjamin Dauphin, Sarah Forsman, Parker Wilson (Savana), Elliot Cooley, and Charles Cooley; and her great-great granddaughters, Jacquelyn Parmer and Landree Jo Wilson. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and many other relatives and friends.

Above all else, Gran was a faithful servant of the Lord. She was a member of Life Church (formerly Lott Road Baptist Church) for over 50 years and most recently was a member of Dauphin Island Baptist Church. She prayed for so many people in her, almost, 97 years. People wanted her prayers because she had a hot-line to heaven. By definition - she was an exemplary Christian because she was, indeed, Christ-Like. Proverbs 31 was written for women like Gran.

Gran’s devotion to her family was unwavering. In her younger years she worked as a “soda-jerk” at a drug store and later as an operator for South Central Bell. Once she started her family, she become a full-time mother and homemaker and she was outstanding in that important career. Only after her children were older did she return to the work force. First as a substitute school teacher, and then after teaching herself to type, she became a receptionist until she retired. After retirement she devoted many hours of volunteer work to various church related activities. Her last “job” was making key lime pie crusts for her daughter’s food service business and those pies became legendary.

What an incredible legacy she leaves. She will be missed so much, by so many. But she was ready to go to her eternal home where she knew she would see her husband and children that she lost while on earth. Everyone who knew her and loved her finds solace in the fact that they will see her again one day.

Services will be held at Mobile Memorial Gardens on February 22, 2025. Visitation is from 11AM til 12 Noon with the memorial service immediately following. There will be a repass from 1PM until 3PM at the Tillman’s Corner Community Center, 5055 Carol Plantation Road.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Mercy Ships - two charities that she supported monthly for many years.

We are very sad to announce that Dinner’s Ready will be closed until further notice. We are still dealing with our loved one who is nearing the end of life and requires 24x7 care. However, we know once we reach that point - and get through everything related to that - we are going to need some time to recoup, regroup, and rejuvenate. We have tried very hard to keep things going since Thanksgiving when this all began - but we are simply tired and we need a break. When we have any additional information we will let you know.

We appreciate all of our wonderful customers and friends - and hope you understand that our family always comes first!

We appreciate your prayers for our family and close friends during this difficult time.
