Tomorrow is the BIG day! We will be opening back up! Lots of hard work, but we are so excited to see everyone again. I can't wait for you all to see the new building, and that wonderful water view from our porch. ❤️Thank you to everyone who helped us through the process! I want to say a BIG thank you to Coastal Plumbing Solutions, and A & J Decks & Home repair!! They were amazing to work with, and did such a great job. This has sure been a process, but so worth it! We have made a lot of changes to our menu. We now have breakfast from 6am-10:30, and we will be serving sandwich meals from 1030am-10:00pm. We have tons of Coffee choices: hot, blended or iced brewed, energy drinks, protein drinks, shakes with or without protein, dirty Island drinks, BOBA, ice cream, snow cones made with our sugar free homemade syrups, and our famous Estella PoPs made from our homemade recipes. Our new hours are from 6am-10pm, Monday- Sunday. Come see us, and thanks again for your patience during this transition. We have six sweet new employees that will be in the learning process for the next few weeks. Throw them some good vibes, and words of encouragement. They are going to do great. Don't forget, are not in our old building, we have moved to 1103 Desoto. ❤️

I don't know who these two men are, but they are appreciated more than they will ever know. This wind, this cold, in the middle of the rough water they climbed up these power line poles to fix down lines for all of us in the area, on their off day. Can't say I would do it on a good day. 😩 Even though being closed today wasn't our plan, we decided to go into Mobile, visit coffee shops, Mardi Gras stores, and got some delicious Beignets. What a wonderful day it has turned into, and seeing these guys on our way back made us appreciate days like today so much more! Now let's get ready for some parade fun tonight!! Power or no power, always remember it could be so much worse, AND we have the power to make the best of any situation! ❤️

MYSTIC SOCIETIES VS. KREWES
WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?
During Mardi Gras, “mystic society” and “krewe” are often used interchangeably. 🎭
Both organize parades, masked balls, and themed events.
The difference? History and region.

MOBILE: BIRTHPLACE OF THE MYSTIC SOCIETY

Mobile’s modern Mardi Gras began in 1830 with the Cowbellion de Rakin Society — the first formal parade in the U.S. 🥁
Secretive, costumed, satirical — this became the blueprint for mystic societies.
Key historic societies:
• Cowbellion de Rakin Society (1830): first organized masked society in the U.S.
• Striker’s Independent Society (1843): oldest surviving society
• Order of Myths (1867): oldest continuously parading society in Mobile

Today, Mobile has 80+ societies, with about 40 parading publicly each season.

NEW ORLEANS: THE RISE OF THE KREWE

In 1857, New Orleans founded the Mistick Krewe of Comus. ✨
Inspired by Mobile, the archaic spelling of “crew” added mystery and exclusivity.
From there, “krewe” became standard for nearly all New Orleans Carnival groups — Rex, Proteus, Endymion.

NAMING TRADITIONS IN MOBILE

Mobile still favors Order, Society, or Mystics.
A few use “krewe,” like the Crewe of Columbus — exceptions, not the rule.

SAME TRADITION, DIFFERENT NAMES
Mystic societies and krewes do the same job.
Mobile’s name highlights its role as Mardi Gras’ birthplace.
New Orleans’ shows how the tradition evolved westward. 🌟

Two cities. One Carnival season. Two names shaped by history.
