Beautiful gardens, delicious food, and a little Alabama adventure! 🌿🍽️ Botanic in Opelika has caught my eye—and earned a spot on my places-to-visit list.

As a chef, I love the idea of gathering around a table surrounded by growing things. Plenty of inspiration here for Capers in the Kitchen!

🍲 How about a Soup Supper with friends?

Ask everyone to bring a favorite soup, then set out small cups for tasting—or tuck the cups into muffin tins for a handy sampler tray!

Add crusty bread, a few toppings, and something sweet to finish. You have all the makings of a cozy evening without one person doing all the cooking.

I’d bring Pumpkin Crab Bisque. What would be simmering in your pot? 🧡

Flaky pastry, creamy oysters, and a little Louisiana holiday magic! 🦪✨ These oyster patties have me dreaming of Christmas Eve gatherings around a table filled with Gulf Coast favorites. 🧡

If you grew up going to Louisiana holiday parties, you already know the little gold crown sitting on the appetizer table 🦪 Oyster patties, those flaky pastry shells brimming with a buttery oyster stew, are pure Creole comfort in two perfect bites.

The filling starts the way everything good down here starts, with a roux and the holy trinity of onion, bell pepper, and celery. Then in go plump Gulf oysters and their liquor, a splash of cream, parsley, and green onion, all spooned into crisp vol-au-vent shells until they practically overflow.

You will find them at christenings, Christmas Eve spreads, and every church hall reception from Metairie to Houma. Grandmothers guard their recipes like heirlooms, and somehow the batch always disappears before the gumbo is even served. Some traditions just taste like home. 🧡

When life gives you Lululemons… turn it into Books & Bites! 🍋📚

Today’s menu, “Secrets, Scandals & Lululemons,” was inspired by Lauren Weisberger’s When Life Gives You Lululemons—with chicken salad mini croissants, layered shrimp cocktail dip, pecan and goat cheese bites, and lemon-rosemary shortbread bars.

Such a fun way to bring a book to the table! As both a chef and an author, I love combining stories, food, and the pleasure of gathering together.
