One year ago today, I watched my dream burn.
I can still remember the feeling of standing there, helpless, watching flames consume the business I had spent years building. It wasn’t just a building—it was thousands of early mornings, sleepless nights, standing for 12-15 hours a day for days, sacrifices, risks, and memories.
I remember standing there praying that day and hoping that this story wasn’t ending. I remember wanting to curl up in a ball and disappear. I couldn’t, my staff and my family needed me to be strong and figure out how to move forward. That is what I do and I am damn proud to be able to say that.
I wish I could tell you that one year later everything is back to normal. It isn’t.
The last year has been filled with insurance claims, engineering reports, estimates, meetings, permits, planning boards, variances, unexpected costs, and obstacle after obstacle. Some days it has felt like the fire was the easy part, and the rebuilding process has been the real test.
But through it all, one thing has never changed…
I haven’t given up. I won’t give up.
As I stood there that day, after the fire and after the rain, a rainbow appeared over my little café. I still believe that it was my Mum’s way of giving me a hug since she wasn’t here in person to do it. She always said “This too shall pass Luv ” and I needed to dig real deep this time to believe it.
It didn’t make that day any less heartbreaking. It didn’t magically fix what had happened. But looking back now, it feels like a quiet reminder that even in the middle of devastation, hope still has a way of showing up.
We aren’t finished rebuilding yet. But we’re still here. Still fighting. Still believing in what Daily Harvest Café means to our community.
Thank you to every customer, friend, family member, firefighter, contractor, employee, and person who has encouraged us over the last year. Your support has carried us through one of the hardest chapters of my life.
