Dallas, thank you.
When we came to Ross Avenue, we believed in Dallas and in what this part of the city could become. We took a blighted property, invested millions of dollars into bringing it back to life, created jobs, and built a space unlike anything that had stood there before.
Our goal was simple: give Dallas the best, most Chingón experience we possibly could.
And Dallas showed up for us.
You celebrated birthdays with us. You packed the house to cheer on Mexico and experience the World Cup together. You came for tacos and tequila, game days, brunches, late nights and everything in between. You filled this building with an energy that made us proud to call Dallas home.
Unfortunately, almost from the beginning, operating that vision became a constant fight with the City.
We dealt with repeated Code Compliance visits, citations, and ongoing challenges to our Certificate of Occupancy and restaurant use. Over time, it became increasingly clear that El Chingón simply was not what the City wanted us to be. Events, programming, dancing, the way we used our space — nearly every part of the experience became another opportunity to find fault with our identity.
We made changes. We worked with City officials. We worked with the neighborhood. We hired consultants and attorneys. We met with elected officials. We repeatedly tried to find a reasonable path forward while continuing to operate the restaurant we spent millions of dollars building.
Instead, the scrutiny intensified.
Eventually, there comes a point where fighting City Hall becomes a bigger part of running the business than serving the people who came through our doors.
So, City Hall wins this round.
Sunday, September 6 was the final day for El Chingón Dallas.
But we want to be very clear about one thing: the people of Dallas were never the problem. You are the reason we fought as long as we did, and we cannot thank our guests, our incredible Dallas team, our partners and everyone who supported us enough.
Our sister location, El Chingón Fort Worth, is still here and ready to welcome the entire Chingón family.
