There are moments when I miss Sandwich Hag’s adrenaline rush. The buzz of customer lines. The sound of kitchen tickets constantly printing during peak lunch. The phone ringing off the hook but we couldn’t answer them. The running from one station to the other. I think being busy is weaved into the fabric of living in America. The falsehood of, if we’re not BUSY, then we’re not WORTHY, and if we’re not worthy, then we shouldn’t be LIVING. I call bu****it.
I gotta say though, I have redefined what work means for myself, by way of chimlanh. Witty Pu$$y is chill, easy, fun. Even at our busiest, it’s still so much fun.
I used to feel guilty when I’d rest. Felt guilty on days when we’re not crazy busy. Felt guilty when I actually had time to sit and visit with our customer friends. Then I said f**k it, I’m gonna feel guilty no matter what I do so I might as well do it “guilty”. And by doing it “guilty” I eventually shed that capitalism-layer and did whatever I wanted, guilt-f**king-free.
In order to shed its skin, you must expose it. Now go sit down and rest up -
