As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit restaurant, Café Momentum teaches critical skills that allow youth to apply what they have been taught in pre-release programs in a safe, real-world environment of nurturing accountability. By participating in our program, at-risk young men and women rotate through every aspect of the restaurant from waiting tables to washing dishes, while working side-by-side with established chefs.

For the second week in a row, Bursey earned Intern of the Week through another outstanding performance. During Momentum Live, she was an all-star and a constant presence in the back of house, while also stepping away to help address our crowd of donors. She truly demonstrated “Digging In” by asking to clean the back room because it did not meet our normal standards. Bursey continues to show tremendous pride, versatility and ownership in everything she does.

Congratulations to you both!

JK showed a level of leadership this week that we have not always seen from him. He handled everything asked of him while also stepping in to help without being prompted. Despite traveling from Fort Worth, he never allows the distance to affect his attitude or approach to providing great service. His initiative, reliability and growing leadership were on full display this week.

We closed last night out and started a new day today with immense gratitude.

Dallas and beyond, time and again you prove to us and to the youth we serve just how much they matter. This Momentum Live and North Texas Giving Day were no exception.

This final 1510 Momentum Live is a snapshot in time that created a ripple effect that will be felt in the new walls of our Flagship location in January, and it’s all because of you. We are better together.

To everyone who showed up, placed bids on our auction, donated, wished us well and all the many ways your support was felt: THANK YOU.

Gratefully,
Café Momentum Dallas

North Texas Giving Day is one of the most important days of the year for Café Momentum. It is a day when our community comes together to say that justice-involved young people are worthy of opportunity, investment and the chance to create a future defined not by their past, but by their potential.

This year, your support matters more than ever.

For eleven and a half years, our downtown location and home has been a soft place for young people to land, a place where they can earn a paycheck, continue their education, access mental health resources, case management support and truly believe in themselves. This fall, we will celebrate our final Momentum LIVE in that space before moving into our new Flagship home in January 2027.

Together, we can open more than the doors to a new Flagship. We can open doors to education, meaningful careers, healing and hope. We can give more young people the opportunity to Dream Beyond their circumstances and step confidently into everything that comes next.

Thank you for believing in our youth. Thank you for investing in their potential. And thank you for helping us build the future they want and deserve.

Donate at the link below today to give our youth the opportunity to dream.

11 years ago, Café Momentum opened its doors in Dallas with a pretty simple belief: young people are capable of extraordinary things when we stop defining them by their hardest moments and start surrounding them with opportunity, support and belief. Dallas believed that with us.

And because of you, that belief has become something much bigger than a restaurant. Over the last 11 years, I have watched hundreds of young people walk through our doors carrying labels that other people put on them but those aren’t the young people we know. We know students, leaders and trusted friends. Young people with goals, talent and enormous potential who deserve the opportunity to dream about who they want to become.

On this North Texas Giving Day, your gift isn’t simply a donation to Café Momentum. It’s an investment in a young person’s opportunity to reclaim their future surrounded by a community that celebrates every step as they walk in their greatness. At Café Momentum, our belief statement is “All youth deserve to dream.” Thank you for continuing to support our interns’ dreams and supporting what we’re building together.

Kaedin said it best. “How critical it is to recognize a great door when opens.”

North Texas Giving Day is exactly that for Cafe Momentum Dallas: opening doors.

Tomorrow is the last day to schedule your gift to support us, to support Kaedin and all our current and future interns. We can’t do this most important work without you, Dallas and beyond, and all you have consistently done for our community.

Authentic mentorship leads to transformation, accountability, motivation…and as you can see here, pride.

North Texas Giving Day is an opportunity for our community to support the small wins we see every day, which are actually big successes. Jalen is currently flourishing in pastry and it’s all because he has Chef Marisa leading the way.

Please consider building momentum this by donating at the link below. Our mentorship and your financial support are the perfect recipe.

People often ask us: what makes Café Momentum different from a job-training program?

Here’s the honest answer: a job alone isn’t enough. Kids coming out of the juvenile justice system are navigating housing instability, unfinished high school credits, trauma and a system that too often expects them to fail.

So we built something bigger than a kitchen.

Your support does all of this and even more by donating at the link below for North Texas Giving Day.

We built an ecosystem of support.

Culinary training: interns rotate through every role in the restaurant, from dish pit to dining room, working shoulder-to-shoulder with professional chefs and restauranteurs.

On-site accredited high school (Café Momentum Academy): because staying enrolled in traditional school is not always possible on this journey (but absolutely necessary), we help interns work toward their diploma on-site.

Building Trusted Relationships: supports off-site and after-hours experiences that give an intern and their case manager meaningful time together to build trust, explore opportunities and engage with the community.

A Safe Place to Talk: provides an hour of individual therapy for a Café Momentum intern.

A Classroom That is Your Restaurant: where we let award-winning chefs teach young adults how to play again, while also learning the skill of a craft.

A Table Where Everybody Eats: daily family meal where we serve one another, check in with each other and let’s be honest, critique each other’s cooking. 😉

“We shouldn’t act surprised when they cannot” overcome community failures alone.

Our latest op-ed feature published by Dallas Morning News, pushes back on the idea that youth justice involvement is just about “bad choices.” Too often, it’s about the choices young people were never given: access to mental health care, basic needs, education, real opportunity.

When we ignore what shaped a young person’s life before involvement in the justice system, we end up judging decisions made without the options many of us take for granted.

An invested community can turn a cycle of lost dreams into a cycle of opportunity. Read the full piece at the link in our comments.
