I was born and raised in the south..... not only is that a slower and different way of life, we spent much of our time, with family cooking, canning and learning from the generations before us! Raised by a true southern Nanny, Sallie Lee Brown and Grandmother's Vera and Dollie, cooking was an art! A simple sandwich was a photo op and we had tea at 3! I have decided to share our secret family traditions with you, just not in written form!

Oh, fiddle-dee-fee! Oh, fiddle-dee-fly!
Come see what we've baked at the Salty Hen pie!
You loved our pies—every crumb, every bite,
From morning till noon and sometimes all night!
You begged for more Coconut Cream delight!
You dreamed of our Chocolate Silk day and night!
So we twirled and we whisked,
We giggled and grinned,
Then dreamed up a dessert
With a pie tucked within!
Not pie by the slice...
Not cake all alone...
But a WHOLE pie filling
Wrapped up in its own!
A Coconut Cake with Coconut Cream,
As fluffy and creamy as you've ever dreamed!
A Chocolate Cake, rich through and through,
With Chocolate Silk tucked right into the goo!
"Oh goodness!" you'll giggle.
"Oh mercy!" you'll cry.
"It's a cake... it's a pie...
It's a cake with a PIE!"
And if you just need
A sweet little stop...
We've filled up our Cake Cups right to the top!
🍓 Sassy Strawberry
🥥 Coconut Cream
🍫 Chocolate, too—just as dreamy as dream!
So skedaddle! Scoot!
Don't wait till they're gone!
These sweet little treats
May not last very long!

The Mulligan at the Salty Hen
Now gather 'round, friends, pull up a chair,
I've got quite a story I'd love to share.
It starts with a Hen, just a little café,
Where strangers walked in and friends came to stay.
There were cookies and pies and lunches galore,
Laughter and hugs walked through the front door.
The coffee was hot, the smiles were free,
Just the way a little hometown place should be.
Then one dark night while the moon hung high,
Some rascals snuck in without asking why.
They took and they stole and they rummaged around,
Leaving broken hearts scattered all over the ground.
They thought they'd taken our spirit away.
They thought we'd just quietly fade one day.
They counted the dollars, the gadgets, the things...
But they forgot about hope with its beautiful wings.
Because hope wears an apron with flour on its face.
Hope says, "We'll clean up this whole little place."
Hope rolls up its sleeves before daylight appears,
And wipes away heartache along with the tears.
Hope sounds like hammers and friends lending hands.
Hope looks like neighbors with generous plans.
Hope smells like cinnamon fresh from the oven.
Hope is what happens when people start loving.
Then the phone started ringing from morning till night.
"We're praying." "We're coming." "We'll help make it right."
Every kind word was a brick in our wall.
You reminded this Hen she could still stand tall.
So we've dusted the shelves and we've swept every floor.
We've unlocked our hearts—and soon, our front door.
The recipes waited. The ovens still knew.
The coffee pot whispered, "I've been waiting for you."
We're calling a Mulligan—a wonderful do-over!
A second beginning because love took over.
Not because life has been perfectly fair,
But because God and good people are always right there.
So come ring the bell. Come pull up a seat.
Come celebrate victory with something to eat.
Come laugh with the Roosters, the Chicks, and the Hen.
Let's fill this old building with joy once again.
We'll toast to tomorrow instead of the past.
We'll make brand-new memories that surely will last.
The story's still being written—you'll want to come see...
Because you can't keep a good little Hen down.
MULLIGAN GRAND RE-OPENING
A fresh start.
A grateful heart.
A stronger Salty Hen.
Y'all come hungry... We're just getting started.

To our family, friends, neighbors, and loyal customers,
Over the past few weeks, we've been overwhelmed by your prayers, encouragement, and kindness following the burglary at Salty Hen Feed Company. Every message, every phone call, and every offer to help has reminded us just how special this community truly is.
The financial impact has been significant. Beyond the items that were stolen, we lost two weeks of business, inventory, Father's Day sales, and revenue that a small business depends on. Recovering from something like this takes time.
Many of you have asked how you can help. The greatest gift you can give us is simply your business.
If you're planning a 4th of July gathering, please consider shopping local. Whether it's lunch, desserts, take-and-go items, party foods, gifts, or one of our marked-down patriotic T-shirts, every purchase helps us rebuild. Every dollar spent at the Salty Hen stays right here in our community and helps us continue doing what we love.
We aren't asking for charity—we're asking for the opportunity to earn your business. Your support means more than you know, and every purchase brings us one step closer to recovery.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for believing in us and standing beside us. We look forward to serving you again.
With gratitude,
TammiKate & The Salty Hen Crew ❤️

Again, I want to express how incredibly thankful and grateful I am for the Dalhart Police Department. From the moment I discovered the burglary at Salty Hen Feed Company, they have treated us with professionalism, compassion, and determination.

A special thank you to Officer Simmons, Dectective Trevino Sqt Todd, Officer Mays and the 2 Officers on duty Friday evening...sorry I forgot their names... for their kindness, patience, and the time they have invested in this case. I know law enforcement often has a difficult and thankless job, but please know your efforts have not gone unnoticed.

While we continue to recover from this heartbreaking event, we remain hopeful that those responsible will be held accountable. Crime affects more than one business—it impacts employees, families, customers, and our entire community. Also, there were several similar events the day before our and that same night. Crimes like these are senseless and cost the community dearly.

Thank you again to the Dalhart PD and to everyone who has checked on us, prayed for us, shopped with us, and stood beside us. Your support has meant more than words can express.

Please remember we have a again increased the reward for the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the event. We have had a multitude of tips, but we are stilling seeking these individuals. Please contact the Dalhart PD or myself directly by PM or 806 717 0743.

With gratitude,Tammi Kate

The Future of the Salty Hen

I've given careful consideration to her future. We've discussed every option, weighed every possibility, and spent many sleepless hours deciding what comes next.

We have decided that the Salty Hen will reopen. We sincerely hope we have the support of our local community. We need everyone to recoup spiritual, emotional and financial.

Even after suffering a significant loss, we are choosing to move forward because we love what we do. We love serving this community, creating a place where friends gather, sharing meals made with love, and being a small part of your lives.

We have ordered a new POS system with expedited shipping, and it is expected to arrive sometime this week. These 2 weeks closed has allowed us time to replace equipment, implement additional security measures, and get everything back in order.

We plan to reopen on Wednesday, July 1st.

We are incredibly thankful and grateful for every message, phone call, prayer, offer of assistance, and act of kindness we have received. During a difficult time, you reminded us why we do what we do and why this little business matters.

When we reopen, you will notice some changes around the Salty Hen. We never want those changes to feel cold, unwelcoming, or impersonal because our hospitality has not changed. Our smiles, our gratitude, and our commitment to serving you remain exactly the same.

The changes we are making are necessary to better protect our property, our inventory, our staff, and our guests. While we wish we didn't have to make them, we believe they are the responsible thing to do.

A burglary may have temporarily interrupted our business, but it did not steal our spirit, our determination, or our love for this community.

The Salty Hen has weathered storms before, and with your support, she'll weather this one too.

We'll see you July 1st.

With gratitude,

TammiKate & The Salty Crew
