Over the past few years, Bob and I have had the absolute privilege of keeping the ice cream dream alive in Curtis.
For more than 50 years, this little shop has been serving up smiles, and for the last five of those, we’ve had the honor of being its caretakers. What started as a leap of faith quickly became one of the most meaningful adventures of our lives.
We’ve met so many of you, shared countless laughs, heard your stories, and in turn, shared our own life’s milestones—our youngest graduating high school, our son buying his first home, and our daughter walking down the aisle. Through it all, you’ve cheered us on, and for that, we are endlessly grateful.
When we first bought the parlor, we were wide-eyed and nervous. We had never owned a business. We were new faces in a town where roots run deep—even though mine trace back here for more than 120 years. We moved away from our kids, unsure if we’d succeed, just hoping we could bring something sweet and special to this beautiful place. And somehow, with your kindness, support, and open hearts—you made us feel right at home.
Because of you, this little ice cream shop became so much more than a business. It became a place of connection, of celebration, of comfort, and of joy. We found a community here—and a piece of ourselves we didn’t know was missing.
We’ve also come to realize that, in our time here, we’ve served as something even more meaningful: memory-keepers. We’ve been witness to generations walking through our doors—grandparents treating their grandkids, grown children reliving sweet moments from their own childhoods, and young families beginning new traditions of their own. Being part of that legacy—of holding space for those layered memories—has been one of the greatest honors of our lives.
But life, as it always does, continues to evolve. Bob was recently offered a transfer—one that, incredibly, brings us closer to our very first grandchild. It also places us near our other children and our aging parents, something that has grown increasingly important to us. When life opens a door like that, it’s hard not to walk through it with full hearts.
So it’s with both joy and a bit of sorrow that we share: the time has come for us to step into a new chapter. The sale of Goodale’s Sweet Spot is nearly complete, and we’re thrilled to say that some truly wonderful new owners will be taking over. They’re eager to keep the spirit of this place alive and to continue serving this community with love and pride.
In the coming days, we’ll introduce them to you—and we know you’ll welcome them with the same warmth and generosity you’ve shown us.
The next few weeks will be filled with memories, hugs, and probably a few tears. We’re sad to see our time here come to an end, but we’re also so excited for the family time that’s been calling us home.
Staci will still be around for a little while longer—please stop in, say hello, and let us thank you in person. You’ve made this journey unforgettable.
With all our love and deepest gratitude,
Bob & Staci
