We are very sorry to announce the passing of our dear friend and colleague K. Pinyo Kiatpinyo (right). K. Pinyo was the leader of Thailand’s Small Farmer Council and a dedicated member of the shrimp farming community. K. Pinyo worked closely with many small farms to help educate, improve sustainability, and open new markets. Following the devastating effects of EMS, K. Pinyo and Rubicon Resources have been working together to help mitigate disease and preserve small scale stakeholders at the Sam Roi Yot and Chanthaburi cooperatives. A pioneer in biomimicry, K. Pinyo spent much of his time educating farmers on recirculating systems that utilized fish and reservoirs to maintain high water quality. This method of production helps to increase farming output while giving farmers alternative sources of income in the event of shrimp crop failures.

K. Pinyo’s work touched an often overlooked segment of Thailand’s farming population, and we are very fortunate to have worked with such a dedicated and passionate leader. K. Pinyo changed many lives and will forever be remembered as a pioneer in sustainable aquaculture. Our hearts go out to his family.
