Some people feel like family right when they walk in our door even though we’ve never met! 🚪 Yesterday a group of wonderful humans tried us out and we just had the best time together! Cheers to making new friends every single day! We’re the lucky ones, wow!!

We are open today 🪴 and excited to get you some very beautiful pollinator friendly plants, 🦋 including Primrose, which is blooming yellow flower today! This initiative was started when we opened our doors three years ago and we’ve given thousands of plants to our customer base creating a healthier ecosystem for our bees, butterflies, moths, hummingbirds, and other pollinators. One and every three bites of our food is because our pollinators and we must keep their populations growing and thriving. Thank you to the South Bay Parkland Conservancy for being the most devoted partner in all this. Your positivity and enthusiasm and your hard work make this a beautiful partnership.

We had the honor of feeding 🥗 150 people at the magical La Kretz Innovation Campus yesterday! ♻️ The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power’s (LADWP) La Kretz Innovation Campus is a space where science, entrepreneurship, environmentalism, and policymaking merge to advance the development of a sustainable future that includes clean and abundant water supplies, a commitment to 100% renewable energy, and an inclusive green economy. It is also a showcase for labs, working exhibits, and educational opportunities for customers, students, and visitors alike, offering ways to save money, conserve water and electricity, and learn valuable information on rebates available to all LADWP customers. You can actually take a tour of this campus and see it for yourselves! It’s our true pleasure to have been thought of to feed such a powerful group of people here doing the right things for humanity! 🌎

Come IN today 🦋 for a complementary pollinator friendly plant! 🪴 Today we have beautiful plants that will help with our 🐝 bee and butterfly populations, including this lovely sticky monkey flower! 🌼 When we plant these types of plants, we are providing habitat, shelter, and food for pollinators that we need to keep our ecosystem healthy and happy. Thank you to our friends at the South Bay Parkland Conservancy who grow and provide these plants. We’re grateful every Monday for them because they made our pollinator initiative come true! 🌎

You’re the reason we do this. You may or may not know that in 2007 we opened a vegan cooking school in Los Angeles at a time where veganism was very unpopular. The school was called Spork Foods. For 15 beautiful years we ran in operated the school and taught about 10,000 people a year. It didn’t feel like enough of an impact so we decided to open Hey, Sunshine Kitchen to be able to reach and even wider audience and show the world that vegan food tastes even better than anything else. We knew this endeavor would be costly both from a financial and from a time perspective. In every regard, it was bigger than what we had anticipated in every regard. Each day we see you walking in our doors, even though you have the choice to go to literally thousands of restaurants and you smile at us and you tell us we’re doing a good job. It gets us through all of the challenges (of which there are many- every single day of the week). This restaurant is yours as much as it is ours because if it weren’t for you, it would not exist. We look back today at our three year anniversary party pics and we see a space filled with beautiful loving people a gorgeous community that we couldn’t even have dreamed of having surround us every single day and we’re very very appreciative. We look forward to seeing your smiling faces this lovely Sunday! Thank you for being our cheerleaders, day in and day out!

We decided on a whim to bring back our BBQ JACKFRUIT SANDWICH today to celebrate this lovely warm weather and the last of summer. It’ll be here for a little while! We happen to make our own homemade barbecue sauce so you know we use the best ingredients we possibly can!
