From Holly Pond to the National Stage: Daniel Figueroa Makes Strong Debut for Alabama Adapted Athletics
For Daniel Figueroa, the journey from a standout athlete at Holly Pond High School to competing on one of the nation’s biggest track stages has come full circle.
The incoming University of Alabama freshman turned in an impressive performance at the 2026 Toyota USATF Outdoor & Para National Championships, finishing fourth in both the 100-meter and 200-meter races in his first competition representing the Alabama Adapted Athletics program.
It’s an impressive start in Crimson for the former Bronco, whose determination and perseverance have inspired his hometown community for years.
Figueroa’s story is one of resilience. At just two years old, he lost his right leg in a lawnmower accident. After receiving his first prosthetic at age four, he had to relearn how to walk and run—an experience that would shape his outlook on life.
Rather than allowing adversity to define him, Figueroa embraced athletics. After playing baseball and football growing up, he discovered a passion for track and field while attending Holly Pond High School.
A life-changing moment came in 2023 when Amputee Blade Runners provided him with a running blade and a new sports prosthetic, opening the door to even greater opportunities. He went on to compete in basketball, indoor track, and state track meets while setting personal bests before earning the opportunity to compete with adaptive track teams across the country.
Back in 2024, Figueroa shared a goal that many young athletes dream about—earning a Division I scholarship in track and field.
Now, just two years later, that dream has become reality.
His debut in Alabama colors at the national championships also caught the attention of fellow Paralympic athlete Anthony Quinn, who shared high praise after racing alongside Figueroa in the 100 meters.
“It was an honor to share the track with Daniel in the 100 meters today. In my opinion, he’s the future face of Team USA Paralympic sprinting. To perform the way he did in his first national championship representing Alabama is incredibly impressive, and I can’t wait to see what he accomplishes in the years ahead.”
The endorsement from an accomplished competitor speaks volumes about the impact Figueroa is already making on the national stage.
From the track at Holly Pond to competing among the nation’s best para-athletes, Daniel Figueroa continues to prove that determination can carry you farther than any limitation ever could.
