DALE OLD HORN ON OLD HORN AND OLD COYOTE THIS THURSDAY FEBRUARY 1ST AT NOON

-- In-Person in the Library Programs Room, on Facebook, and on Zoom

Dale Old Horn will be presenting on his ancestors Old Horn and Old Coyote this Thursday, February 1st at noon live in the Library Programs Room, on Facebook and Zoom.

Dale is the Emeritus/retired Professor and Department Head of Crow Studies of Little Big Horn College. He is the author of a number of books, including Music and Dance of the Crow Indians, Apsáalooke Social and Family Structure and Baaanniile (The Direction of the Path of the People).

Old Horn and Old Coyote were both members of the Lumpywood warrior society. They saw the transition of Crow life during the buffalo days to the early reservation days. They were both involved in the last intertribal fight in 1888 with the Lakota Sioux near the Big Horn River. They took up ranching during the reservation period.

Road trips used to mean looking for a good meal and a reason to pull over for a while. Out here, that usually meant a place with coffee, pie, and a counter where folks could sit down without being rushed.

This one has that travel-stop feel, with cafe plates, a trading post side to it, and shelves that make you slow down and browse a little. It feels tied to the highway in the best way, the kind of stop people remember because it gave them food, a breather, and something to take home.

I’ve always liked places that let you do more than one thing before getting back on the road. Those are the stops that stay with you.
