UpTempo Coffee Company We are a small-batch coffee roastery offering specialty-grade single-origin and blended coffee beans. Similar to a jazz musician's solo, roasting is our way of expressing the beauty and flavors of regions around the world.

As our name suggests, we are jazz fans and musicians who also love roasting coffee. For us, coffee and music are synonymous with bringing people together and building community. Like music, we find that coffee has a way of transcending differences and providing a source of commonality where relationships are born and strengthened. Miles Davis & Gil Evans- There's a Boat That's Leaving Soon for New York [remake]

Today in music history, Miles Davis finished recording Porgy & Bess in collaboration with arranger Gil Evans, who had previously worked with George Gershwin on his opera in 1935.

The album was recorded in four sessions on July 22, July 29, August 4, and August 18, 1958, at Columbia Record's 30th Street Studio in New York City. Porgy & Bess marks the second collaboration between Davis and Evans, and it is widely considered their greatest achievement together. It was released in 1959, and is considered a historically important contribution to Jazz.

Here is one of the songs recorded that day, “There’s A Boat Leaving for New York”

This weekend was especially enjoyable as we were able to catch up with some friends who now keep a ministry through Cadence Ministries in Weisbaden, Germany, reaching out to the men and women in uniform. Thanks so much to The Stephensons for this amazing Weisbaden Hospitality Ministry coffee mug. Uptempo Coffee tastes delicious in it and makes us feel like family with the Summit Haus group though we're miles away!

We LOVE seeing the arts disrupt the monotony. If you are in Crossville, be sure to check out the new butterfly wing painting by local artist, Bill Quillen. The colors are vibrant and pop against the navy brick wall.

Painting is located on the side of Bellissima salon, off the corner of 4th St. and Rector (between 127 & West Ave.)

Have you ever noticed how many flavors are in coffee? When it comes to specialty coffee, flavors become incredibly prominent, from sweet like chocolate or caramel, to fruity such as citrus or berry, to nuttier, each growing region has its own unique flavors. When we profile coffee, this is one tool we use to help us make those observations so we know what to share with the public.
.
You too can use this flavor wheel to identify unique origin flavors in your favorite coffees (flavors are most recognizable in light-medium roasts).
.
When you sip your coffee, try to identify a flavor grouping from the center of the wheel. Do you taste something sweet, roasted, vegetal, or spicey? Aim for this first step. Once you are comfortable identifying a flavor region, then move outward to level 2, and get a little more specific - what kind of sweetness or tartness? What family of spice?
.
If you don't get it right away, don't get discouraged. It takes time to train your mind to identify specific flavors. You will continue to get better the more you practice.
.
Feel free to print off the flavor wheel and try it out with your next cup of Uptempo Coffee!

One of our top selling beans are from Guatemala, grown in the Huehuetenango region (pronounced way-way-te-nan-go). The coffee is distributed by a co-op that helps farmers join together to gain Fair Trade and Organic certifications (which can be difficult for a single estate to do). The co-op then helps to distribute the coffee to the global market.

This lot of Guatemala caught our attention in particular for two reasons. First is how creamy, silky smooth the mouthfeel is on it.

Second, this is one of the best tasting coffees we’ve come across that tastes coffee with just the right amount of flavor and balance. Drink it black or add just a little bit of frothed milk to highlight some additional flavor (be careful though, too much milk can hide some of the elements that make this a stand out cup of coffee).

We only have 7lbs left from our recent shipment - it’s that good. To order, send us a message with how much you would like and whether you want it ground or whole bean.

Costs are 12oz $13.99. // 8oz. 8.99 // 4oz sample $5.00

It’s delivery day!!! These are a Replenishment of our Guatemala plus 2 new beans to experiment with - 1 from Papua New Guinea (we LOVE the decaf, and are hoping this batch will be good enough to share with our caffeinated friends!). Before Introducing a new coffee origin or blend, we cup to compare different roast levels. This helps us find a profile that brings out all the best qualities of a bean.

Pictured is a recent cupping if a washed Ethiopian Yirgacheffe at a light and medium light roast. The exercise helps us think about how to tweak the roast profile to provide a better coffee experienc for our customers.
