Positive news from Jace’s Mom:
Jace update Wednesday 7/22: Jace is doing well and is improving each day. In this last week he has started marching band where he is trying to regain all the movements in his right arm and leg. He says his brain is moving faster than his body so it is taking some time to adjust and try to get things working faster. We had an appointment today with a Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation doctor in the med center. He will oversee all of the therapy and recovery long term. I was hoping he would help setup PT/OT and speech therapies that have been nonexistent so far. This was successful! I got a call this afternoon and he has evaluations for PT and OT next week then speech the following week. I also worked with our 504 Coordinator at school to implement accommodations for Jace as school starts in 2 weeks. These will help him be more successful and stay safe at school. We travel to San Antonio on Monday for 2 additional MRI’s, follow ups with the neurosurgeon and infectious disease doctor. I am trying to get the ID appointment moved to Monday so I don’t have to miss my first day back to work and we don’t have to spend the night in San Antonio. I have called, but gotten no where. We have had some great dinners provided from friends over the last week, this has been such a blessing. Please continue to pray for Jace’s movement on his right side and his processing to return to normal. Pray that we could get the Infectious disease appointment moved to Monday in San Antonio. Also pray for me as I am going to have to miss work to take Jace to these appointments. If you know me, you know I don’t like missing work. I know everyone understands and I have saved up a lot of days “just in case”, but I love my kids (students) and my job and hate to miss. Pray for the PT/OT and speech therapies to be setup somewhere convenient for Jace as well. He has a lot of work ahead of him, but he’s giving it all he’s got. Thank you so much for the prayers and support. We definitely feel loved.

Jace update Monday 7/13: We are HOME! We are so happy to finally make it home after 2 weeks and one day in the hospital. Jace still has a ways to go n his recovery, but is still making good progress and so glad to be home. I am a little stressed about administering and keeping up with all the meds, but first iv push antibiotic in the picc line was successful after a minor meltdown (by me) first. Next step is to follow up with the pediatrician and get all these referrals and appointments made. Please continue to pray for Jace’s recovery and for me to not stress out about all these meds. (it’s a lot)

From Jace’s mom:

Jace update Friday 7/10 8:30 pm: Another busy day here. Jace went early for his mri. Then PT/OT came for his morning exercises. He was less than thrilled. His spirits were a little low this morning. He’s really missing home. After PT/OT speech therapy came by. Jace was able to walk the halls, walk backwards and do side steps. He also brushed his teeth with his right hand (attempted to at least). Then all the doctors came in, pretty much one at a time it seemed like. First was the neurosurgeon. He said that the clot was resolved and the mri looked good. We will come back in 2 weeks to do a follow up mri here with the neurosurgeon. Then the icu doctor came by and said she wants to watch his blood pressure for a few days and try to ween him off the meds. That way he doesn’t have to go home in a bunch of meds. Then the infectious disease team came by and said he will have to go home with the picc line and antibiotics. He will probably have to have home health come and change the dressing on that each week. We will follow up with them in 2 weeks when we come for the mri. Next was the PT doctor and nurse practitioner from the rehab floor for another evaluation. Their recommendation is to go home and do outpatient rehab! Woo-hoo! All of this to say he is making good progress and will probably be headed home on Monday! Jace has floor privileges and was able to visit the child life zone where he played air hockey, arcade games and the claw machine. Then he was able to see the cafeteria and got frozen yogurt from a machine. He had family visit and bring snacks. He did manage to fit a nap in there too.
Please pray for continued healing and increased fluency of speech and movement on his right side. Pray for his spirits to stay higher and for ease of transition of care to Houston. We appreciate the continued prayers and support from everyone.

From Jace’s mom, Cathy:

Jace update Thursday 7/9 7 pm: Whew it’s been a busy day today. Jace did some exercises with PT/OT that will really build his leg muscles up (walking backwards, side steps, high knees). He was able to be taken off his blood pressure iv meds (praise the Lord!). With this he can wear his regular clothes. He was moved out of the icu wing into the intermediate care wing on the same floor. He was able to take a shower and he felt like a whole new person. He also was evaluated by the PT Nurse Practitioner so they know the appropriate placement after his mri tomorrow. He also is able to watch Toy Story 5 in his room! They are working on changing his privileges where he can move freely throughout the hospital with mom and dad. Lots of positives today!Please keep praying for the infection and inflammation to reduce. Pray for positive results on the mri. And pray for increased strength and mobility on his right side and improved speech. Jace is showing everyone here how strong he is and how good our God is.

We rented a camper from this Crosby company this past 4th weekend. It was an excellent experience and I highly recommend them. They have 6 different campers available, all pretty new, and all different sizes and price ranges. The camper was very clean, high quality and very well stocked. Contact Mike. If you're only planning to use a camper 2-3 times a year, it's cheaper to rent than own.
