The History of Good Ol' Wishy's:
Good Ol' Wishy's was built after Croghan's second fire in 1912. The original building served as a drug store and was owned by Alowishas VerScheinder. He was often referred to as "Wishy", resulting in the businesses' long standing name. Between the 1920's and 1930's, a soda fountain was added, contributing a great deal to the small businesses' popularity. M
any of the children from Father Leo Memorial Catholic School could often be found filling up the booths of Wishy's during their lunch breaks and purchasing five cent Buckeye Root Beer in a frosted mug. Since 1995 the store has been owned and operated by Karl, Charlotte, Evan, and Kaleb Schweitzer. The store became unofficially known as the home of the "Adirondack Sized Cone." Since this time, the store has undergone a series of renovations (but still manages to maintain an old-fashioned vibe). Reonovations include an updated store front, recovered bar stools, refinished floors, updated menus, and the addition of soft serve ice cream. Not only can customers enjoy soft serve at Good Ol' Wishy's but they are also offered over 35 flavors of hard ice cream. The aim is to appeal to all tastes and age groups. This unique shop, in the heart of Croghan, also offers customers a wide variety of cone options, milkshakes, floats (which are, as always, served in a frosted mug), old fashioned ice cream sodas, and sundaes. If you don't see what you want on the menu, you can make your own sundae choosing from a wide variety of toppings. Good Ol' Wishy's aims to please and we promise that you will not walk away disappointed. To keep the store feeling authentic, all orders placed for within the store are served in glass dishware. Many of the same dishes used for shakes and floats are also available for purchase in the store. Items for sale include: pint glasses, frosted mugs, and coffee mugs (all bearing the Good Ol' Wishy's name). T-shirts in various colors also make a perfect souvenir for those visiting the area or even to send as a gift to those who remember Good Ol' Wishy's as a beloved piece of their childhood. When you are done perusing, perch yourself on one of the barstools lining the old fashioned soda counter and treat yourself to one of the many ice cream treats we offer.
