The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) observes September as National Su***de Prevention Month by raising awareness of veteran mental health challenges and sharing critical crisis resources.
Support Resources

Veterans Crisis Line: Dial 988, then press 1 (available 24/7, confidential).
Text Support: Send a text to 838255.
Online Chat: Visit Veterans Crisis Line for confidential online support.

Key Prevention Focus Areas

Recognize Warning Signs: Watch for changes from a person's normal baseline, such as social withdrawal, unusual quietness, expressing hopelessness, or giving away belongings.

Start a Conversation: Ask directly if someone is thinking about su***de; asking directly opens the door to help rather than planting the idea.

Community Connection: Building trust and maintaining strong, positive relationships helps reduce isolation and connects veterans to the support they need.
