💙 Introducing Miles for Minds
For the past several months, our family has been working behind the scenes on something that is incredibly personal to us.
On October 25, 2025, we lost Joyce to a ruptured brain aneurysm.
Joyce was so much more than a co-owner of Cowpens Coffee & Creamery. She was a wife, mother, sister, friend, and someone who had a way of bringing people together. She loved her family, her community, celebrating life—and she especially loved Halloween.
But Joyce’s story also taught us something we wish we had learned much sooner: how little we knew about aneurysms.
We didn’t know what questions to ask. We didn’t know what warning signs to look for. We didn’t know how devastating a ruptured brain aneurysm could be.
And as we began talking more openly about Joyce and what happened to her, something we never expected started happening.
People from our own community began coming to us and sharing their stories.
Some had been personally affected by an aneurysm. Some had lost someone they loved. Others had family members who had survived. We started hearing, again and again, just how many lives have been touched by aneurysms in one way or another.
There are different types of aneurysms, and while Joyce’s story is specifically about a brain aneurysm, the impact of aneurysms reaches far beyond one diagnosis. Behind every aneurysm is a person, a family, and a story.
That is why we want Miles for Minds to be about more than remembering Joyce.
We want it to be about awareness, education, support, research, and community.
That is why we created Miles for Minds.
On Saturday, October 24, 2026, we will come together in downtown Cowpens for the inaugural Miles for Minds: In Honor of Joyce Stauffer, Benefiting Brain Aneurysm Awareness.

💙 Awareness, education & remembrance
Our goal is bigger than one event. We want Miles for Minds to become an annual event—and a lasting part of Joyce’s legacy.
We’ve created a separate Miles for Minds page so this event can grow into something of its own, separate from the coffee shop, and continue bringing our community together for years to come.
Here’s how you can be part of it:
💙 Register to ride or walk
💙 Create a team and invite your friends, family, coworkers, church group, riding club, or community organization to join you
💙 Become a sponsor and help us make this event possible
💙 Share our page and this post so we can reach more people
💙 Learn about aneurysms and brain aneurysms and share that information with the people you love
Whether you ride, walk, volunteer, sponsor, create a team, or simply share Joyce’s story—you are helping us turn an unimaginable loss into something meaningful.
We can’t change what happened to Joyce.
But we can make sure her story isn’t where it ends.
We can learn.
We can raise awareness.
We can support research and education.
We can bring people together.
And we can keep Joyce’s memory moving forward.
We hope you’ll be part of it. 💙

We remember.
We raise awareness.
We do it for Joyce. 💙
