The folks over at Roscoe Barbeque Company may not have been open today, but they were kind enough to let us use their patio for our Around Town class! 🧡🐾

I am so thankful for local businesses that are willing to give our dogs the opportunity to practice in real world settings like this. The goal is for our owners to eventually feel confident taking their dogs out to eat, visiting a patio, walking around town, and simply enjoying more of life together.

Tonight we worked on the “under” command, teaching the dogs to settle underneath the table while their people practiced eating. We also worked on stays, settling around distractions, and getting in and out of the vehicle calmly instead of bolting the second that car door opens.

Practicing obedience inside the training facility is one thing. Taking those same skills out into the real world, where there are new sights, smells, sounds, people, and distractions, is where we really get to put that training to work!

And just as importantly, these outings help build confidence in the owners, too. The more successful experiences they have with their dogs in public, the more confident they become trying new places together.

I’m incredibly appreciative of the businesses and people in our community who welcome us and understand what we’re working toward. We all want the same thing: well behaved dogs who can safely be included in more of everyday life. 🐾🧡

Thank you, Roscoe Barbecue Company, for letting us practice today! And if you haven’t heard of them, be sure to check them out! 🍗🥩🥓
