MoJoe's Book and Brew

MoJoe's Book and Brew Coming Soon! A local, independently-owned bookstore, cafe, taproom and retail space in Cortland, NY. So many of you have supported us on this journey. P.S. P.P.S.

We’re building something we’ve wanted for a long time: a place where you can browse books, sip some java, and stay a while. Your “Third Place.”

Our space will be a retail bookstore, café, and taproom—designed for readers, writers, curious minds, and anyone who loves a good story paired with a good drink. Whether you’re stopping for a brew, meeting friends after work, or settling into a quiet corn

er with a new favorite book, we want this to be the kind of place you return to again and again. What you can expect:
• A thoughtful selection of books for all kinds of readers
• A cozy café vibe by day - relaxed taproom atmosphere in the evenings
• Cool, one-of-a-kind gifts, cards, and artwork featuring local and regional artists
• Events, gatherings, book clubs, and many more reasons to come back (often)

And yes—this has been a nearly four-year odyssey. After a few property “almosts” and some long detours, we found our way back to a space we had considered from the start: the historic Cortland Corset Factory. We’re aiming to open late summer / early fall, and we can’t wait to share the excitement as this space comes to life. Thanks for being part of our story. Before anyone asks: the profile pic is not our logo. 😂 Just a playful placeholder until we finalize the real thing. We hope you’ll help us “sell a sh&*-ton of books!”

Every dream needs talented partners who help bring it to life.

A huge thank you to Aaron St. John, owner of Southern Tier Hardwoods, for crafting these stunning bar and counter tops for MoJoe's Book & Brew. The photo doesn't do them justice. Their craftsmanship, character, and beauty are something you'll have to see when we open

We're also incredibly grateful that Aaron and his assistant, Cassie, personally delivered them today—in this heat, no less—with smiles on their faces from start to finish.

Today ❤️🖤💚June 19, 1865—the day news of emancipation finally reached enslaved people in Texas, more than two years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation.

The National Museum of African American History and Culture has curated a thoughtful Juneteenth reading list featuring books for all ages that explore Black history, culture, and the ongoing pursuit of equality. Spend some time learning from and celebrating Black voices.

Observe Juneteenth by reading. Here is a peek at books the staff of the National Museum of African American History and Culture are reading, have read, or have on their to-read list.

Have you noticed our logo? We're excited to finally share the story behind it! A huge thank you to our creative friend—and future neighbor in the Corset Building—Tina Minervini for designing the MoJoe's logo. Tina is also the co-owner of Cinch and Pottery Works Cortland and we're so grateful she shared her talent with us. Thank you, Tina! We can't wait to open our doors and be your neighbors.

🌈 Happy Pride Month from MoJoe's! 🌈
While our bookstore doors haven’t opened just yet, we’re already building the kind of shelves that celebrate every reader, every story, and every identity. From groundbreaking classics to contemporary favorites, these stories remind us of the importance of visibility, community, love, and belonging.

Mo lived in Seattle for 8 years, and Elliott Bay Book Company was one of her favorite spots. She and Joe are also the humble servants to a 12-year-old corgi/beagle/dachshund mix named Henry. It seemed fitting to share this post in honor of National Pet Month...albeit a bit late!
