New year’s eve was a threshold, not a launch. Last night’s and today’s energy is Capricorn in nature. It is not new me energy but new structure. Ask yourself What supports me when no one is watching? The Moon in Gemini asks us to look toward new experience, new adventure, and the working towards creating a space to heal,to explore,to open up to new ideas. Time to create a new narrative for yourself.we are moving from a year 9 energy of completion, closing out, and shedding the old, worn out, and all things that no longer serve. We are stepping into a year 1 energy which will fully initiate in 3 week of February. Clear up loose ends, put things back into their proper places, create space for the new. The planets are working with us on this. Mars, Sun, Venus, Mercury all in Capricorn giving us all the tools we need to access what needs cleaning up, what needs throwing out, motivation to see it through. Several astroids also there to help with keys themes. Use this time to wisely prune all the dead to make room for all the new growth. 2026 can only be great if you put the work in to developing the things that inspire and delight you! Happy new Year from all of us at Witchy Things!

From : Friends of the Forest

Long before January had a name, winter carried a sound that belonged only to the deep cold—the chorus of wolves moving across the night.

Many Native American peoples, and later the colonists who lived beside these winter lands, noticed how the wolves’ voices grew strongest when the year was at its emptiest. Food was scarce, snow lay deep, and the nights stretched wide and unbroken. And so this moon—January’s full moon—came to be known as the Wolf Moon, a name born from the simple truth of those winter evenings: wolves calling out to one another through the dark.

But beneath the practical naming, something quieter moved.

The Wolf Moon rises just after the winter solstice, when daylight has only just begun its slow return. Its light feels ancient, thin and bright like a blade, illuminating the stillness that winter protects. This is the moon of early beginnings—a beginning that does not rush, a beginning that gathers strength in the dark before stepping forward.

In old winter lore, people watched this moon to understand their own endurance. Wolves survive the leanest stretch of the year through connection: traveling together, protecting their young, sharing warmth. Their howls are not cries of hunger alone but a way of staying linked across vast distances of snow and silence.

So the Wolf Moon became a symbol of community, intuition, and the inner fire that refuses to go out—even when the landscape sleeps.

On a clear night, if you stand beneath this moon, its light seems to sharpen whatever is quietly stirring inside you. Not a wish, not yet a plan—just the awareness of something beginning to wake. The Wolf Moon doesn’t rush you; it steadies you. It reminds you that strength can be soft, that guidance can come from instinct, and that you don’t have to walk the long winter alone.

As the Wolf Moon climbs, the night listens.

And something in you rises to meet its light.

Mars:drive and ambition with a side order of get in my way at your own peril, Sun: power, vitality and self expression, illuminating the path forward, Venus: love, creative, enjoyment, building that better structure to embrace what you love. Vesta: devotion and focus to the mission, Pholus : highlights rapid catalysts, sudden realizations, and the unfolding of deep, often unexpected shifts and Juno will hit in 2 days also in Capricorn. You will have much positive support to get started on the changes you are yearning and striving for. Keep in mind that this is the support energy of the Neptune Saturn conjunction at the World Point at 0 degrees Aries. The time is now to set your foundations with concrete actions to move forward with confidence. We must be in action mode before fate locks us in for the next year. The choice is more stagnation or moving into the new dream. Choose wisely!

Day 6: Odin’s Day
Odin is a primary figure associated with Yule in later Norse and Germanic folklore. During midwinter, Odin often rode at the head of the Wild Hunt, a ghostly procession of the dead and otherworldly beings who swept across the winter skies. In later Scandinavian traditions, children left hay, straw, or carrots in their boots as offerings for Sleipnir, Odin’s eight-legged horse. (and, yes, this is one reason Santa has eight reindeer.) He was also the Wanderer, when he moved through the world cloaked and unrecognizable, testing hospitality and rewarding those who practiced it.
These winter motifs (an otherworldly rider, a discerning gift-bringer, and offerings left in shoes) shaped early Dutch Sinterklaas customs. These later contributed to the Santa Claus figure: a supernatural winter being who rewards those for good behavior.
Ritual Ideas for Odin’s Day
* Place evergreen branches, holly, or juniper at doors and windows for protection during the Wild Hunt.
* Leave a symbolic “clear path” for the Wild Hunt by dimming outdoor lights and lighting one lantern.
* Shut all windows, doors, and cloak mirrors before nightfall.
* Leave hay, apples, or carrots outside or in a boot near your fireplace or bed as an offering for Sleipnir.
* Read or recite a poem or stanza from the Hávamál
* Offer hospitality by setting out water, snacks, or hand warmers for delivery workers or travelers.
* Spend an hour studying a mystical topic to honor Odin’s pursuit of knowledge.
* Hold a winter storytelling night focused on Odin, the Wild Hunt, or ghosts.
* Read the runes.
