WHAT IS SAMBA DE GAFIEIRA?
Imagine stepping into a warm, crowded gafieira in Rio de Janeiro — the music is alive, the floor is warm, and two bodies are having a conversation without words. Samba de Gafieira is not steps on a page. It is ginga, forca, alegria — the sway, the force, the joy of moving together. Born from the meeting of Afro-Brazilian rhythm and the elegance of the ballroom, it is playful, sophisticated, and deeply human. This is social, alive, and waiting for you.
WHAT WE WILL DANCE
The essential and colorful vocabulary of dance steps adjust accordingly from Beginning to Advanced level
Beginners: The essentials of posture, connection, and the basic walking steps that give samba its soul. You will leave your first class already moving with ginga.
Intermediate: Expanding your vocabulary, enhancing your musicality, and finding more joy in the playful conversation between lead and follow.
Advanced: Complex turns, improvisation, and the joyful art of truly dancing together — where two bodies and one rhythm become inseparable.

An Interactive Workshop with Eliane Abdel-Malek

What does it feel like to struggle with learning—even when you’re intelligent and trying your best?

Join us at Tavern Blue for an interactive workshop exploring the everyday experiences of children and adults with learning disabilities.

Learning disabilities are differences in how the brain processes information. They may affect reading, writing, math, memory, organization, communication, and understanding instructions. They are not a reflection of intelligence, effort, or potential.

Through hands-on activities, guided simulations, real-life examples, and discussion, participants will gain a deeper understanding of learning differences.

What You’ll Learn:
• What learning disabilities are—and are not
• Dyslexia, dysgraphia & dyscalculia
• Why intelligent children may struggle academically
• How processing speed, working memory & organization affect learning
• How learning difficulties can affect confidence and well-being
• Practical strategies for parents, educators, home & classroom
• When additional evaluation or support may be needed

About the Presenter

Eliane AbdelMalek is a certified ADHD coach through ADDCA in New York and an educator with 24+ years of experience. Her background includes classroom teaching, special education training in London, learning-support teaching, and English Language Learner instruction in Iowa City.
