Macros, Grams, Calories? I’m so Confused!
So many carnivore diet influencers have completely complicated this very simple diet with talks about macros, grams and calories.
Basically, all you need to know is to eat at least 2 POUNDS of fatty meat per day. No carbs, nothing sweet. All you can eat meat! That’s it.
Figuring out what “fatty meat” means can be difficult. Most people eat too lean, even I did in the beginning. It can be helpful and eye opening to track your meals for a week to see where you are at. You want your weekly average to be around 75%. Some days may be more or less and that’s OK, you just want the weekly average to be about 75% fat of calories.
I have been using (FatSecret.com) since 2007. It’s a calorie counter, but it shows you everything you would want to know. Fat grams, protein grams, carbs, calories and most helpful for this diet, your macros as a percentage of calories.
Fat secret has a desktop and mobile app version. Since it has been around for so long it has a vast food list to choose from.
2lbs of meat is a minimum. This picture on this post is of what I’m eating today and is typical of what I eat most days. Breakfast is always my biggest meal and it’s the same thing, ground beef (73/27) and eggs. Sometimes I go wild and add cheese! 😜
As you can see, I eat more for breakfast than most people eat in a whole day. 😱
For dinner I eat a smaller meal. I normally eat about 3000 calories a day. The macros are at the bottom. You can see I am at 76% fat for today.
You don’t need to pay attention to calories or grams of anything. You just want that fat macro number to be a weekly average of around 75 and eat 2lbs of meat a day.
There is no need to be obsessive about tracking. You're just tracking to get an idea of what 75% fat looks like. Once you have that down, you can stop tracking and eat naturally. Eventually you will learn your body’s signals that will let you know if it needs more or less fat.
The zero carb carnivore diet is very simple…just eat fatty meat, nothing sweet and no carbs. 😁
