Hello Everyone, we are back Open today - 07/15, and if you’re hunger, we would be honored to feed you!!!
But as of today, 07/15, we want to advise all of you that we will not be selling any Salads, not have lettuce for Subs, We**ies or side Salads for Pasta, due to the on going and dangerous Cyclospora Cayetanensis Parasite.
Please Read, I pulled this off the internet;
* With the current outbreak linked to leafy vegetables and salad greens in Pennsylvania is caused by the Cyclospora Cayetanensis Parasite, which causes an intestinal illness known as cyclosporiasis, which leads to symptoms like watery diarrhea, stomach cramps, and nausea.
The situation is currently unfolding with these specific details:
Current Cases: Tens of cases have been recorded across Pennsylvania regions (including Allegheny, Erie, and surrounding counties), part of a larger, multi-state outbreak.
Suspected Sources: State and federal health agencies have identified fresh produce, specifically lettuce, leafy greens, and bagged salad mixes, as the likely culprits.
The parasite has been found in fresh produce such as:
Parsley, Cilantro, Snow peas, Mesclun Lettuce,
Spinach, Salad mixes, Raspberries, Blueberries and Blackberries
This has been widely reported on various news outlets, and the CDC is tracking this outbreak in 31 states currently, with Pennsylvania being on that list.
At Ice House, we mainly use Iceberg Lettuce, and even though it hasn’t been listed, we still feel it’s in all of our best interest to currently suspend all Salads for now. So please understand we care.
*** BUT… Spinach will still be available on our various Pizzas that use it as a listed item, as Cyclospora Cayetanensis Parasite is RELIABLY KILLED at temperatures over 200°F. In fact, heating contaminated food to an internal temperature of at least 158°F is considered the most effective way to eliminate the parasite. ***
So for your safety and us being proactive, and until this outbreak source is clearly identified and brought under control, we feel it is in the best interest of all for us to suspend the use and sales of the items we listed above. So nothing “Leafy” will be available until further notice, unless cooked.
