Good evening it is Monday, August 31. We are now on day 36 of the Sinlahekin fire. The fire today is at 166,373 acres and 40% contained. You will notice that the numbers have changed a little. They have been able to re-calculate the actual size of the fire which also alters the containment amount. Thanks to the rain that we had over the weekend the fires being pretty quiet for the most part. It doesn’t mean it’s out it’s just not raging. Cooler temperatures have also helped. They are still working on the northwest corner trying to keep it from heading out into the wilderness or up into Canada. There’s more rain in our forecast starting Tuesday night and Wednesday and going through Sunday. With temperatures in the 60s to low 70s, so that will be very good for them firefighters. Another good thing about the rain is that the smoke level is almost 0. It is wonderful to be breathing fresh air after all this time. I decided to share a few few pictures of the lake today since people have been asking. As you can see It is extremely low. That’s about all I have for today.

A few more of the faces that are leaving. I’ve gotten so used to seeing you guys every morning for your vanilla lattes. Your lavender Matcha. And your white coffee with salted caramel and dark chocolate. Lol. I hope you all have had safe trips home and thank you for everything you have done.

Yesterday was a great day. We had rain, hail, snow up high, thunder and lightning (not good) and cool temperatures. This morning started off in the upper 40s. The coolest temperatures we’ve had for quite some time. All of this is extremely helpful on the fire. There was not a lot of fire activity yesterday and crews were able to get up close and really work on containment. as the fire area dries out over the next couple days we may see more smoke rolling in however Tuesday night and into Wednesday there’s another round of moisture coming in and temperatures are remaining in the 70s for the rest of the week. This is all good news. Hopefully with all these changes in whether we will start seeing a lot more positive coming out of the fire and hopefully no new fires.

Let’s all pause for just a moment and enjoy the sounds of the rain. It is 62° raining. We do now have some thunder which means lightning but it is quite beautiful right now. It smells fresh and clean not like smoke. The sound of the rain on the roof is fabulous and I for one and am enjoying every second.

Today is the last day for Cal fire. They are heading on out. It has been wonderful meeting each and everyone of you. Those of you were planning on coming back, I look forward to seeing you again. And I thank you for everything you’ve done. Have a safe trip back home. The southwest area incident management team three will be coming to replace them starting at 6 AM tomorrow.
The fire is up to 165,590 acres and the containment has been revised to 49% it is still very active in the north western corner and there have been some new evacuation levels up there I am seeing a lot of air support activity today which is a good thing.

What can I say about this group? Words can’t express how much it has meant me to meet each and every one of them. These are some of the people who keep everything going, and nobody even knows it. These are some of the people who made it possible for me to experience some of the fun things I’ve gotten to do the last few weeks. They have taught me so much. I will never forget them. Thank you so much you guys for everything you have done. It’s hard to say goodbye to you and I really hope that we will see each other again someday without a fire.

Good morning it is Thursday, August 27 day 32 of the Sinlahekin fire. As of this morning, it is up to 162,630 acres 56% contained. We do have a red flag warning today so there is a very good chance of increased fire activity again. Yesterday‘s activity was mostly in the northwest area of the fire. They did have some spotting and will be working in that area today to try to keep it from spreading too much more. There was activity within the fire in other areas. Those areas were in the interior of the fire, so it was not spreading. It looks as though we are expecting the possibility of rain and thunderstorms on Saturday. Let’s hope to get just the rain without the thunderstorms.

So as we have all seen there was a significant amount of fire activity this afternoon. As of 5:30 pm the fire is 156,699 acres and 56% contained. The worst of the activity was in the north west portion of the fire. There was a bit more activity in the south west portion but I’m not seeing any movement towards Conconully. I’m sure the acreage will go up a bit unfortunately. But we are still safe here. It has been 31 days since this fire started. Let’s hope the containment goes up soon!
