REGGAE + BLUES + JAZZ + A LITTLE SKA = RUEGAZZ!

Now THIS should be fun.

Formed in 2013, Ruegazz blends the sounds of reggae, blues and jazz — with a little ska thrown in for good measure — to create a style all their own.

The five-member band features:

🎸 Keanu Himalaya — guitar/vocals
🎸 Kyle Roelle — guitar/vocals
🎤 Whitney Hank — vocals
🥁 Anthony Owens — percussion
🎸 Scott Henggeler — bass

Ruegazz has performed throughout Lincoln, Hastings, Omaha and Columbus and has been part of the Power and Progress Festival for more than 10 years.

But what we really love is the philosophy behind their music.

They create original songs that are uplifting, energetic and relatable, believing music should bring people together, make them smile and leave them feeling a little lighter than when they arrived.

We couldn't think of a better fit for Fall for the Arts.

FALL FOR THE ARTS ARTIST -- YARA RAMOS

You may already know Yara Ramos' artwork — even if you didn't know the artist behind it.

Her colorful murals can be found throughout Columbus. She's the artist behind the Columbus TRAX Creative District poster. She's a graphic designer, mixed-media artist, face painter and body painter. And through Havana Stone, she uses art and design to help tell the stories of businesses, organizations and communities.

Originally from Cuba and now based in Columbus, Yara brings more than 20 years of creative and design experience to work that's bold, colorful and often unexpected.

On Saturday, September 19, you'll find Yara and her artwork at Barbara Jean's during Fall for the Arts.

Before then, get to know the artist behind some of the creativity you've probably already encountered around Columbus.
