Homemade Buckeyes for Sam I Am

I haven’t been on here for a while….
For those of you that follow Sam’s journey… you know he’s had a bad year. Starting with covid in October, he was out on a vent, needed a trach, weaned down to just a nighttime vent… to being completely off the vent!
He went from not being able to eat anything and being fed entirely through his feeding tube … to enjoying corn in the cob, soups and desserts.

He has fought so hard and was recovering, finally. Doing well. We had him to the zoo just a couple weeks ago for veterans appreciation.

Last Thursday Sam had a normal day. Got up, ate, watched tv…smiled.
I laid him down to get off his behind for a few hours,, I laid down with him. At about 5:30 he gasped, I got up and cradles him in my arms, turned his oxygen up… and I watched his heart rate fall as he laid in my arms.

Sam passed away Thursday. My whole heart went with him.

We sat up a gofundme account to help with his funeral. We had lots of love, but leaving my job to care for him left us with no insurance or much money.

Happy belated Thanksgiving, we are so thankful to have made it another year🙏. Especially in a year like this one.

Unfortunately craft shows have been a no go for us, but we’re happy to be a part of a virtual craft show.

A dozen buckeyes are $8
1/2 dozen is $5

A dozen snowman buckeyes are $10

Buckeye Apples ( Granny Smith apples dipped in peanut butter and chocolate) are $5 each

Homemade peanut butter fudge is $5 a tub.( 4-6 ounces)

Chocolate dipped pretzels with toppings ( Heath. Butter finger, peppermint, Oreo, or colored sprinkles) are $1.00 each.

Hey friends,
I was just reminded that I haven’t posted anything in a while.
Sam is back in the hospital. He was on a ventilator again and is now recovering. His swallowing has suffered from being intubated twice this year, so tomorrow he is having surgery to place a temporary feeding tube until he can get his strength back.

I have been at the hospital every day with him, so I haven’t gotten much else done.

However, this weekend kicks off the Buckeyes football season, so I am rolling up my sleeves and gettin busy. If anyone would like some for the game on Saturday, please let me know.

I will also be taking an assortment of goodies to the Humble Crate in Pickerington if you’d like to get your fix that way.

Please keep him in your prayers, it’s been a hard year for us,

Sorry I haven’t posted here in a while. It’s been a long week.

For those of you that don’t follow my personal page. Sam has been very sick.
I took him to the VA urgent care for some shortness of breath. They sent him to OSU East.
By the time he arrived there by ambulance he was in serious condition, he was intubated and on a respirator within the hours. I wasn’t allowed in with him during this because of the COVID outbreak. He tested negative for that, thank God.
Getting him off the respirator was difficult, he was weak and not passing his trial tests. He had pneumonia in his right lung and an infected wound.
8 day’s in and the possibility of loosing him was getting to be more of a reality as each day passed. Lots of prayer warriors lifted him up and yesterday he was successfully taken off the respirator. Today he was up in the chair and ate a little puréed food.
I have still not been able to touch him, kiss him or hold his hand, but they did set up a fb chat so I could see him, and he should see me.
We’re hoping to have him home the first of the next week sometime, he has a central PICC line in and I’ll give him his IV antibiotics here at home.
I did get a wave out of him during our video chat.
Please continue to lift him up.
Our buckeyes will be back at the Humble Crate as soon as this quarantine is over and you all can always contact me if you’re in need of some chocolate,

It’s been a very emotional week, but God has watched over him for healing and to keep me from completely going off the deep end, ( pretty sure I did go off the shallow end, though )
