The Ruckmoor Pub was originally purchased in May of 1958 by Robert C. At that time it was just a small motel called the Pearly Gates. The name was immediately changed to the Ruckmoor Lodge. Over the next few years 6 rooms were added behind the 2-story house that was part of the original purchase. There were 4 additional rooms added above the office area and still exist today. A 12-unit apartment b
uilding was also constructed behind the main office structure. The location where the bar sits now consisted of an office and 2 bedrooms. Much of the original structure still exists in some form. In 1960 Bob purchased a liquor license and opened up a 4-stool bar in one of the bedrooms. Within a few weeks it was obvious that this would not do. It was often packed with as many as 20 people trying to squeeze into this little bedroom. Within a few months he tore out the adjoining wall between the two bedrooms and doubled the size. He had a 15 person semi-circular bar constructed. This lasted for over a year until it was again obvious he needed more room. A massive reconstruction of the entire building was begun. He utilized the original office area and the two bedrooms to construct the bar, as it exists today. He added on the office area that also exists in itʼs current form today. The poolroom at that time was a drive-thru area for parking while coming in to rent a motel room. Within a few years this drive-thru area was closed in and made into a lobby area. It evolved into the poolroom of today. Also a little known fact was that there used to be booths and tables in the basement that also served as a drinking area. At one point there was even a pool table.
