Lavash Cafe opened in Columbus's Clintonville neighborhood in December 2008, founded by Nasir Latif and his son Jamal. Nasir had already spent two decades in the Columbus restaurant scene, having opened Firdous near Ohio State University's campus in 1988 before later selling that business. At Lavash, he returned to a recipe with deep personal roots: his mother's hummus, brought to the United States from Palestine, made from scratch with chickpeas soaked overnight and no shortcuts taken.
The Mediterranean menu spans hummus including a black bean variation, falafel, shawarma, kabobs, grape leaves stuffed with seasoned rice, tabouleh brightened with fresh mint, and family meal options. Fresh pita bread is made in house and served with nearly every dish. Indoor and outdoor seating are available, along with takeout and catering. Free Wi-Fi and bike parking on site. No alcohol served.
