Dr. Abner Landrum, one of the early founders of what became Forest Acres, left a legacy that reaches far beyond the Landrum-Stork house and and his historic brick and pottery works. A physician, publisher and potter, Landrum is widely credited with educating David Drake “Dave the Potter”
who became renowned for creating pottery inscribed with his own poetry at a time when literacy was forbidden to enslaved people. Today, the Forest Acres Beautification Foundation is working to preserve Landrum’s legacy, creating an opportunity to connect history, literacy, art and place and invite the community to help ensure that the stories shaped here continue to be told for generations.
